What would a non-digital ski watch be like? I can't quite understand the concept.

Personally I wear either a Certina DS Pro, light robust, simple, waterproof and shockproof or for more mountaineering days a Suunto Core which is an altimeter/barometer/compass I find it a bit bulky for my taste aesthetically but functionally very good indeed.

Rob

A better question is if they're crossing onto open pistes, that's exceptionally rare so it's not something piste skiers need to concern themselves about at any mainstream well managed ski station.

There's always the academy at Les Houches. You might get a better response on mysnowsports.com though and see where people are going.

Can anyone advise?

Thanks

Very nice place, a quiet little village with access to the best skiing of the area. I've stayed in the Mondschein as well, in fact I recommend it to someone here recently.

Saas Fee looks like a good option, better rates for half board

Would Geneva or Zurich airport be closer

wrap up, it can be cold :D For transport, there's a Swiss transfer ticket which is probably worth looking at. In terms of times, it's best if you work it out yourself! The timetable is at :

I think Zurich is slightly quicker now the new tunnel's opened.

I wear my glasses with the goggles. On brighter days I use the sunglasses attached to the specs with the goggles as well. The layered effect ! Can be lots of switching on the chairlift on the course of the day. The only danger here is dropping the magnetically attached shades if struck when lifting the goggles. I dropped the shades one day but they were in tack when I skied down to retrieve them.

I understood that, but this was advice for a newcomer and it's worth mentioning that using clip-on shades is a bad idea, a lot of newcomers do turn up with them so if we can save someone a little discomfort that's a good thing I'd think.

Without goggles clipon shades are a very bad idea, the amount of incident light will do eyes some serious damage with prolonged exposure in alpine environments.

davidmpires wrote:So I guess that for protection and comfort wise goggles are the choice to ski, while my Arnet sun glasses would do just fine to chill out at the cafe.

Double lenses are a must get other wise they would steam, and finaly the tint doesn't seem to be a common decision but the orange ones seem to be the main choice, I don't want to buy two pairs of goggles just for the first week, I feel i've spent far too much already. So I guess i'm going to get a pair of decent goggles from TKMAxx.

actually, no, all the replies are correct normally but they've forgotten you're going for the first time, I'd say good sunglasses are just fine for standing around in lessons. You'll find all the new skill effort may steam up some goggles. Once you get going goggles are probably better, by then you'll have it worked out yourself anyway. Good plan though, go with both.
