Suunto have other GPS models and any GPS with track logs can probably do the same thing although you'll find unreliable on short distances, ie less than a few km and generally unreliable without a barometric altimeter anyway. If you want to ski fast for some fun there's publicly open races in France like the flèche and you'll get a badge or medal for that. It may be safer to find out how fast you're going on a race course than an open piste as well of course. More to the point, why? There must be something better to spend money on, measuring your ski day by how far or how fast you've been may miss the point. You don't need any expensive gadget to measure how good the day was or what you did or who you were with except a camera :) |

I'd have taken the train personally, I was round there a couple of weeks ago (http://snowslider.net/2008/09/30/kandersteg-adelboden/) although you do need to get the bus at Frutigen as the train doesn't run into Adelboden, a taxi would be fine as well from the station. Are you sure that was 800 pounds and not francs? I'll do it for 750 quid ) |

It's nearby to us actually, Adelboden and Lenk are quite popular locally. Generally better skiing than the nearby Grindelwald/Wengen etc and less busy in terms of holiday makers although more local skiers at the weekend. Some spectacular scenery and the skyline is dominated by the Wildhorn and Wildstrubel peaks of the western Oberland. Also host of the FIS race in January which is a big Swiss event, possibly more so than the Lauberhorn in fact.
Good skiing, pretty snow sure, it'll be one of the early opening stations and close latest. Lots of intermediate terrain and some pretty good off-piste. OTOH, the local dialect and accent is impenetrable and I don't get a word of it :) |

I can't speak for what a UK tour operator charges but the actual accommodation isn't particularly expensive in Lech, when we lived in southern Germany it was my favourite weekend destination. There's any number of good pensions at reasonable rates, there's a couple of pretty grand hotels that are expensive and I've spoken to English who were staying there so it may be where the TO's go.
I do recall we used this place : http://www.hotel-panorama.at/ for Xmas a couple of times and it was excellent, it may not be the cheapest in the village though. |

I've a video camera I rarely use for that reason, I've never got on with it at all. With a still camera I reckon you do the composition before you pick the camera up so it's just as simple as being grabbed by the view and pointing the camera, with video you've got to keep re-composing and framing and I've never really got the hang of it. |

a great view and I was stood there with a camera, that's all you need :D |
