I might be wrong but I think that it saves you having to pay the people who take you off the mountain up front.

I have finally got myself sorted but it will not be the Alps ... any ideas :D

Am guessing it's not Tyrol.
Or perhaps the Dolomites

Seems like it will be a tricky one to enforce?

From what I've read on fb pages hosts will be recognised if they are there week in, week out with a different set of 'mates'.
Les Houches

I went to Les Houches at the beginning oflast April.
The snow was good enough for a couple of days skiing and we really enjoyed it. You could ski into the village, but the snow did get heavy and churned up and also patchy in places.
This year might be different, you can't tell what will happen, but if it were me I wouldn't be choosing either of those 3 places.
I've been to Chamonix, Les Saisies, Val Thorens, Grand Massif, Puy St Vincent and Serre Chevalier in April and of all those VT and Flaine (part of Grand Massif) had the best snow.
Brevent and Le Flegere (part of Chamonix) were also very good.
Serre Chevalier worth a trip but be prepared to catch gondola down.
The others were perfectly skiable and enjoyable but much harder work at the end of the day as lower runs got softer.

Obviousy each year differs in terms of depth. I chose VT and Flaine based on new snowfall we had while we were there. And it was -15 on the glacie at VT on 10th April!
BRRR.

We got to stay at Neige et Roc ( nice hotel) and kids accom, food and lift passes were free. So would hire and lessons have been but we didn't use them.
An adult had to pay full price for each service for kids (parents!) to benefit.
I don't know if they still do it, ours are too old now

Not sure if thats the kind of hidden gem you mean

Hmmmmm...I just took time and read the thread title.
Can't help on cheap transfers..sorry

That was a Brit half term week though wasn't it?
I know France gets mega busy aaround this time. Italy must have peak weeks too.

I love the look of that area. Wherever we go next year it won't be France (famous last words). Done France for last 9 or 10 trips and fancy a change. Nothing to do with the hosting situation!
