I suggest tourist euro purchases are an insignificant force, c/w the amount of money bought forward. (Businesses with export contracts can safeguard the contract by buying forward) and other financial movements.

To view the currency movement over 5 years:

The effect of the banking crisis can be seen.

Also of note is the rate of recovery is not as steep as the rate of decline.
Hence, IF one were to believe that the current recovery will continue, this indicates a winter season with an exchange rate c 1.35 Eu/£.

The TO's recognise this, and some action is being taken. Inghams, for instance, are offering to match the local lift pass rate.

Agree with Steve and Young Andy ~ Rent. The hire shops will have new gear in. The social aspect mentioned by Steve is important, good relationships = good skis and service.

If the deal includes the possibility of changing skis, you will be able to keep trying until you find a pair you really like.

Then watch for these skis in the sales. (From mid-March)

In your season meet-ups, you will meet a local with a discount card. I bought skis at two thirds off in Worgl, and obtained an extra 10% off with a Tennis Club discount card!

At the end of the season, you will have new skis, that you have fully researched, know you like, at a great price.

Is that a plan?
You can apply directly to the companies. Here, for instance is Inghams:

The timing is quite good, but you need to get applying now, interviews are to be held over the next two weeks. For your area, the nearest location is Godalming.

They may settle yet.

Good point, Iceman. However, to be effective, you need to make it clear that it is your intention to do this, and give them a week to respond.
I did this, (on a car insurance issue), and received a swift and satisfactory settlement.

If you complain to the IO prior to a warning shot, you might lose the advantage.

Those that last end up getting the bigger resorts as their experience is vital.

I agree, Andy. I am not having a go at the SCGB. The guy was a pretty reasonable skier, but a people person, he was not.

The end of the story is best told after a pint or two.

I am sure I have recanted the story about the SCGB rep that came to Niederau in the 70s. He introduced himself as "Wichard Wobertson". Poor fellow, after that, he never stood a chance.

But that wasn't the story.......

Andy, 20m rad, going retro!

I guess the challenge now, Andy, is for you to give the SCGB discounted price for the skis, and let Bandit prove/disprove the theory that this would be a percentage discount off the top line price. AND, that this could be found at a more competitive price.

Full offer definition required!

My experience allows me to place a side bet on Bandit ~ but then you never know.....

Just read a thread on TGR on stem cell injections. Sounds like there will be a way soon for people to extend their skiing careers indefinitely

That is comforting, I had planned to emulate some of the 100 year old+ skiers, but indefinitely sounds infinitely more attractive......
