Well, after much pondering and keeping an eye on weather and conditions for skiing in the highlands, I finally made the choice last night to make a trip to the Cairngorm mountains today (Monday 28th December)... and what a decision it was!!
The weather - beautiful! Clear blue skies, sun shining, lovely fresh snow from the night before.. What's so bad about that?
Pretty lucky to be honest, however the roads on the way up were shocking! Left the house at 5 am this morning.. Rarely managed to reach 50MPH on the A9 due to the condition of the roads, thick snow lying all over it, and it reached minus 18 at parts too! But the closer we got to the Cairngorms, the better the weather became - Parked up at the carpark and the temp read minus 3 degrees. Perfection. Got a couple vids uploading to Youtube at the moment, might embed them later :) |

After having looked around the official ski scotland website, I've decided to try and make a day's skiing this Monday.
Between the closests resorts, Nevis Range seems to be the most promising. Can anyone give their 2c worth on weather up there just now if anyone has been recently? Have checked some forecasts and it seems okay for Monday - but always worth double checking before I head out :) Cheers! |

Heylo people, how are we today?
Merry Christmas to you all again :) Hope you've all had a great day and some great food! Just been wondering, anyone heading up to ski in Scotland over the next week? I'm considering going up on Monday, but unsure as to whether it's too early or whatever - Wanted to see what other people thought :) Checked some forecasts and it seems okay, roads and runs open :) |

Is this leading to the dangers of skiing without hearing? To prevent this arguement, I believe it's ok for someone to ski whilst listening to music so long as they are even more aware of what's going on around them. Ideally, you can listen to music as loud as you please and totally zone into the music if you've isolated yourself somewhere, be it off-piste or so :) |

Ryanair's terms and conditions;
'skis and large musical instruments including but not limited to harps, double bass and drums are inherently unsuitable for carriage by airlines operating fast turnarounds such as Ryanair. However, these items may be carried in the hold of the aircraft in addition to your personal checked baggage allowance up to a limit of 20 kilos per item upon payment of a discounted online fee of £40/€40 per item, per one way flight.' I'm not entirely sure if this means ski bag = 1 item, boot bag = 1 item.. but the same rule applies - If your ski bag with poles and skis inside them and this counts as 1 item and is 15KG, you're allowed to add 5KG more weight with anything you please (so long as it's legal, of course ;)) |
