France seems hellishly expensive & the Portes Dul Soleil particularly so I'd be tempted to avoid Morzine/Avoriaz if there are just two of you.

Everything to do with skiing is hellishly expensive from ski hire, liftpass, supermarkets everybody makes a good living out of the ski Industry.

I always manage to get good value holidays, half price equipment ( I never rent), discounted clothing and find a bar with a happy hour.Ian Wickham wrote:andymol2 wrote:France seems hellishly expensive & the Portes Dul Soleil particularly so I'd be tempted to avoid Morzine/Avoriaz if there are just two of you.

Lift pass is the only thing I cant get cheap!
I have also found I have been spending quite a bit more money when skiing in France, both because it is more expensive across the board for everything, and also because of the exchange rate.
Skiing does not have to be an expensive hobby/holiday.

As soon as you get to a ski resort everything goes up in price what ever country you are in, they have us by the short and curlies

How about some prices from everyone? How much do you budget for?
As I've said before, we spent £1100 per person on our last ski holiday, not including groceries we bought for our self-catered apartment. But this did include lessons and ski hire and it was Feb half-term in Courchevel.
I would have said myself it would be difficult to do it for less than £1000 per person per holiday if you were totally honest about everything - like adding in the cost of gear (new ski boots, socks, jackets whatever) and incidentals like airport parking, food and drink bought during the holiday etc.
I think ski holidays are very expensive - but I'm still going on one

Well I have never spent anything like that for a ski holiday to be honest. Although I have just spent £900 on going club med to St Moritz, but thats all food, drink, lift passes and lessons as well.AllyG wrote:How about some prices from everyone? How much do you budget for?

I have been paying around £500 for catered chalets, and have found deals to get lift passes for £10 in ADH and half price in St Anton, so make it £600 and thats everything covered.
Without causing offence, if I paid £1100 for a ski holiday self catering, I would be seriously upset.
