If you are a fairly nippy skier, you might find the ski tip grabbing, and throwing you out of the turn. It is quite surprising what a difference detuning the tip makes.
I beg to differ. I don't believe that it is necessary to detune the tips of modern skis at all. Mind you I don't suppose I could be described as a fairly nippy skier. It all depends on the context.
