Sorry Tony,

Thats the kind of comment I refer to where people look down on those who dont wear helmets.

Your comment above is not me referring to the none wearers in general as heroes.
I refer to the ones who fly by on the slow zones and ski aggressively amongst groups of skiers
with most of them not wearing helmets. I just found myself uttering the word "Hero"
Verbal reaction, thats all i conveyed in my post.

Vince
Ok, my apoligies in that case.
Are you saying that the people skiing aggressively in the slow zones were mainly not wearing helmets, or the people who were skiing there were not wearing helmets when others who skied aggrrssively came through?

It's about a year since Natasha Richardson died and the helmet debate came up on the radio today.
Sounds inevitable it will become law & apparently sales of helmets are up 60% since her death.

I think it's a shame - people should be allowed to make own decisions. They always use the bicycle helmet argument - but they aren't compulsory and I think cycling is more dangerous.

No - don't have any stats, just makes sense when roads/concrete/cars involved that you're more likely to get hurt.

Aw b*******s I thought this thread had died, obviously it has it's helmet on.

The day they make helmets compulsary is either the day I change destination, or the day I give up. I am considering a helmet cos I'm getting into my jumps, but if some eurocrat in Brussels tells me how to protect myself against myself I will be mighty peeved. I will be horrified if I can't slide down a deserted glacier in May in a t-shirt feeling the sun and wind. If my not wearing a helmet would potentially endager others, I would look at it differently. I simply won't do something just because I'm told to. Everyone, be they helmet heads or not should oppose a legislative change, it's simply another example of nanny state-ism.

Pah!

There is some truth in that ;) coupled with Saturday working and 80 hour weeks I've been kinda busy. Had an awesome days sliding locally on Sunday mind, discovered a wee slalom run with an unexpected jump half way down, after landing it I was off to find a bigger one, now I'm hooked ;)

Yes,its me again just got up, another sleepless night with my right shoulder
in agony. A week now since I crashed out onto the icy pathway to the lift at
Big White. I collected no one and yet my skis were 20 metres away and i remember
my face, crashing and sliding into the icy snow. Yes, lucky i had my helmet on.
The right side took the full brunt, no memory of what happened with my right arm.
Just two days off and then finished last two days skiing very slowly.
My brother, the Bowens masseuse took me to see his sports injuries workmate yesterday.
No, not the AC joint, just ripped up my biceps upper and middle. 2 weeks of more pain :(
The helmet thread, i recall reading it a while ago, so thats why i added to it
with my observations of Big White, Canada. I was there for 12 days and was amazed with
the locals high uptake of helmet wearing.

I also defend peoples right to make their own decision with helmet wear.
Wow, my careless use of the word "heroes".
Oops sorry

Vince
Let it snow.
