Our original plan was to stay on the eastern side of the Rockies & try & base ourselves as close to the oil, oil sands, petrochemical, pharmaceutical industrial regions of Alberta but still within easy access of Banff. Preference was to be nearer Calgary than Edmonton, it is over two years since we looked into it but I recall Red Dear county as being a possibility. As for reservations well they are the same rational ones that we would all list, family connections, job security, pensions, health care provisions & the upheaval for the children. The one thing that did put me off was annual leave & the leisure v work balance, most employers did not offer much in that department.

Thats the thing that most appeals to me about Canada - their leisure/work balance. Granted they are like America in the fact that most employers don't give more than the statutory holidays which are minimal compared to over ehre however they do have the work and social life mix correct.

Canadians like Australians don't get so caught up in the world of work and have a true social life outside of work whereas over here too much emphasis is placed on work life and the material world....

Canada is the option for me as it is closer to home - oh and Oz has never appealed.

Get me out of here asap!! :P
