About two years ago we did the Canadian immigration points/score test for the Provence of Alberta, in principle subject to visa application the points scoring system gives you a good indication of how successful your application to emigrate would be. Scary thing is we have the desirable skills, Electrician & Nurse & qualified under the skills shortage quota. My wife was & still is as keen as mustard to go but I have too many reservations.

Our original plan was to stay on the eastern side of the Rockies & try & base ourselves as close to the oil, oil sands, petrochemical, pharmaceutical industrial regions of Alberta but still within easy access of Banff. Preference was to be nearer Calgary than Edmonton, it is over two years since we looked into it but I recall Red Dear county as being a possibility. As for reservations well they are the same rational ones that we would all list, family connections, job security, pensions, health care provisions & the upheaval for the children. The one thing that did put me off was annual leave & the leisure v work balance, most employers did not offer much in that department.
