School trips. Hmmm. My daughter used to go on school trips by bus to Austria, and they used to end up with little to no skiing because the idiots chose some low lying Austrian resort.
As it happens, Folgarida is somewhere I nearly booked for January, but opted out because we got a better deal to ADH - turned out to be a blessing as the Dolomites have had precious little snow this season.
However it would be a half decent place to ski in good conditions looking at the piste map.
I just don't get why school trips pick these daft places and the kids come back complaining of broken legs, knackered ligaments, and skiing on water with stones in.

I'm not totally sure it is the schools to blame Tony. In my experience, schools tend to use "specialist" school ski trip arranging companies, and it seems to be these who offer the low resorts in places with not so good snow records. But this is almost certainly driven by price (don't forget these trips are usually in a peak holiday such as half-term or Easter) and the fact there are probably not too many decent hotels willing to accept a group of 40 South London teenagers, looked after by 5 staff who are also trying to enjoy a break.
Perhaps there is a gap in the market for someone to arrange trips to better suited resorts. I suspect though, that once the cost is totalled, schools will still end up going to the low out of the way resorts.

Let me tell you, from experience, that its the teachers who organise these trips who are to blame. They dont research enough about the resort, apart from whats on offer for a party of school kids in terms of school dinner type meals and a hotel where they can run around and annoy other paying guests and hog the table tennis.
I agree though that the school "specialists" could perhaps pick better resorts to offer, but its these late season Easter type trips where the problems happen with conditions so you'd have thought they'd send a teacher who actually knows a bit about where to ski etc?
Rocket Ski, who do lots of school accommodation, use resorts like Serre Che, ADH, L2A where late skiing is usually ok.
A bit of nous to choose somewhere with high slopes you'd have thought? Oh no, lets go to some small low lying Austrian field

Like I also said, price has a lot to do with it. A quick google shows that you are looking at around £100 more to do Serre Che over Folgarida (was just a single compare, there may be cheaper options elsewhere, but I can't be bothered searching loads tonight).
Now I know that for most that is probably a no-brainer, but I can assure you at my school it would probably be the difference between having a school trip or not. This year, our school is going to Eben Im Pongau in Austria, which they got pretty damn cheap, but they have still struggled to fill it, and have decided that they will now run the trips bi-annually instead of every year.

Surprised school ski trips still exist at all! Price is a big issue, that's why the austria fields are popular
Just typed this and realised it says nothin new.
