On the slopes
Hat/Helmet
Goggles/Sunglasses
Buff/Necky type thing
Gloves! 2 layered gloves with a warm breathable inner and a water/wind proof outer.
Underwear/Base layer-Such as Icebreakers/Silk thermals/ (Cheaper alternatives?)
Mid layer-Light fleeces/jumpers. Can be discarded if conditions allow.
Outer-Waterproof jacket is essential, breathability is an option that tends to vary with price. Same goes for salopettes
Socks-good quality/thin/well fitting skis socks (1 pair to be worn under ski boots). Tube socks are not a good idea.
high factor sun cream (don't forget under the tip of your nose!)
Lip balm or Vaseline
Off the slopes
Compeed blister plasters (especially if your rental boots don't fit quite right)
Norwegian Formula hand cream (mountain air will dry your skin)
EHIC Card and proof of insurance
*Throw ideas in and I will update it as the thread goes on. Probably good if you fix my spelling etc...

On the slopes
Hat/Helmet
Hat for me, although several mates now wearing helmets. I like to have a couple of hats to choose from.
Goggles/Sunglasses
Always take both with me, but tend to wear goggles a lot more than I used to.
Buff/Necky type thing
No, they are for girls )
Underwear/Base layer-Such as Icebreakers/Silk thermals/ (Cheaper alternatives?)
I got a load of Kalenji base layers in Decathlon, £7.95 for long sleeve zip necks. They are for runners specifically, but serve the same purpose. I usually wear thermal t shirt under the base layer. Primark, £2.50 and perfectly good enough.
Also put thermal leggings on under sallopettes, unless I am skiing in April or its particularly warm.
Mid layer-Light fleeces/jumpers. Can be discarded if conditions allow.
Tend to always wear a thin fleece with a high neck over a base layer.
Outer-Waterproof jacket is essential, breathability is an option that tends to vary with price. Same goes for salopettes
Absolutely. I tend to prefer wearing a thinner waterproof outer shell as they are less restrictive than a heavier insulated jacket, but again it depends on the temps. I wasnt ever cold in St Anton, minus 12 in the sun, with a non insulated jacket, apart from the long blue 4 through the bottom of the valley taken at speed. I always travel with at least 2 jackets though to give the option in changing temps.
Socks-good quality/thin/well fitting skis socks (1 pair to be worn under ski boots). Tube socks are not a good idea.
Defo agree re tube socks. I have gradually built up a collection of decent quality socks over the past 2 years, popping in to TK Maxx and buying them when they drop down to £4 a pair from rrp of £25 plus. Now have a really good selection of socks, all thin but with padding in the right areas. Makes a massive difference to how your feel feel and how your boots also accordingly fit. Please, dont wear tube socks!
Off the slopes
Depends where you are. Mooching around the chalet maybe in loose fitting tracky bottoms or jeans, t shirt/sweat shirt, and then pair of walking shoes to go out in, and a couple of fleeces/hoodies for the colder places, walks, or trips out. And a cow suit, of course.
