I am thinking of trying a four or five night stay somewhere in the Dolomiti superski area in january and I have no idea where is best?
I love Italy for many reasons and can get good flights to either Verona or Venice and would love to know where is best.
Most important for me is the access to the slopes and good skiing but also somewhere that is good for a few beers at night if the need takes us.
Thoughts would be much appreciated

Dolomiti Superski, where to stay?

Was in arabba last two years with completely different snow levels and did not really notice much difference. Historically they can have low snow levels so they seem to look after what they get a lot better than other snow sure resorts I have been to.

I have been to Selva several times. Much to recommend it. Very extensive slopes, terrific scenery, attractive village. Excellent nursery slopes for beginners or loads of great cruising for intermediate skiers. Lots of Mountain Huts all over the area, mostly with reasonable prices.
It is a good base for doing the Sella Ronda circuit.
Selva is neither upmarket or brash. Its a good value, civilised, low key resort.
Only a few possible downsides--a sometimes dodgy snowfall record although there are good snowmaking faciities. Not much for good snowboarders

Stayed in arabba, great base for the Sella Ronda and close to the glacier to get there before the rush on a good weather day.
Small village atmosphere and limited night life, only two pubs but most hotels have bars that you are made welcome.
Not the best resort for beginners, home runs a bit steep but for intermediates and above a great base for exploring

Arabba and Selva defo appear to be the 2 places to stay. There are other villages like Ortisei, Canazei etc that look pretty and link in to the area, but are very quiet and appear to have fairly long links into the main network.
Val Gardena or Val di Fassa would be reasonable bases I reckon

I have stayed in Arabba, and other villages in the Dolomites. It was during a lengthy drive around Europe ski trip, so a direct booking. Hotel was a hike up/down the hill. That apart, Arabba is a good location.
