You are going to get conflicting opinions now, but I would recommend packing them in your suitcase. You are NOT going to need lots of clothes off the slopes, so keep that to a minimum. Check to make sure you have 20kg allowance though, as 15kg might not be enough, and I'd pay for the upgrade rather than pay for excess baggage at the check in.

Your boots will be safe and secure in your luggage in the hold, pack them with socks and underwear. I always put my goggles and glasses inside them as they are not going to get damaged in there.

I have seen so many pairs of ski boots coming round the carousel in their own little bags all broken and damaged that I would never consider taking them that way. There may also be weight restrictions imposed doing it this way.

Some people take them on as hand luggage, if the security allows you through with them that is! You may have problems at certain airports, although I have heard of some people wearing their ski boots on the flight!!!

Best bet has to be putting them in your case. Dont put them in your ski bag whatever you do, there is not enough protection. AND make sure you wrap your skis in bubble wrap and pack the ski bag out with ski clothing like sallos and jackets to give more protection - you want to see the way the baggage handlers chuck your ski bags around, its enough to reduce a grown man to tears.

Enjoy.

Well its what I have done on the past 2 trips, since I bought a double padded ski bag. Pay for 1 ski bag and put the 2 pairs in and pack it out with jackets, sallos, socks, etc.
You should be ok, depends on who checks your bags in, whether they are on PMT, and which airline you use. If you are going Easyjet or Ryanair, you probably wont get away with it. If its BA, other national carrier, or a charter, you should be ok, as the airlines themselves dont make a charge for ski carriage, but may limit the weight per bag for H&S reasons when it comes to handling it. Its actually the tour operators who make the charge, greedy swines. If you have a tour op on duty when you check in, you could be seriously unlucky and get charged for a 2nd pair of skis at a higher rate.
Who are you flying with?

Boots in your suitcase, or bottom of your rucsac.

I find the trick with weight is to have a winter packing list saved on your PC. Never take more than what is on the packing list, and when you come back, adjust your packing list by what didn't get worn.

You should be able to get all your winter gear, including boots, into a lightweight rucsac at between 12Kgms and 15Kgms.

Many TOs operate a weight restriction on your ski bag. Some are an inpractical 6Kgms

Easyjet is 12Kgms, but this is for "one set of skis". If close to the weight limit, I whip off the bindings, and put them into the rucsac. The skis can then sit into each other.

Landing at Toulouse last year I was witness to the French baggage handlers unloading the plane by dropping the ski bags from the plane to the tarmac, so I think the advice of wrapping or removing the bindings is a good idea.

This HAS to be some kind of money making scam, as it is totally impractical to expect a ski bag to weigh as little as 6kg.
Even 12kg is pushing it, when you look at some of the board bags and double ski bags people use.
