Chapelco - Ski Resort and Snow Summary
Skiing in Chapelco
Chapelco - Ski Resort in Argentinian Andes (1250m to 1970m)
A large modern ski area beginning at the maximum snowline and serviced by South America's only gondola lift. The nearby town of San Martin de Los Andes is particularly unspoilt. The resort has employed Colorado's famous Vail Associates to help with development. Slope gradients range from 44 to 20 degrees. From the top of the quad chairlift at the Mallin through the Travesia down to Mocho, the Pradera ski run and a combination with several runs from the Base, the maximum length is 5.3km (3.3 miles). Another possibility is to go down from the top of Poma del Filo and Pioneros, through extensive 3,4 km (2.1 miles). The Base and Run 63 are perfect for beginners, and there are also black ski runs, bumps and jumps for the more advanced. From San Martín de los Andes city, Chapelco is a 15 km drive along National Route 234, going round Lake Lácar up to Provincial Route 19, and 5 km from this point to the hill base.
