Kals am Großglockner

Kals first came to fame in the early 1960s when it opened its first chairlift in 1961 and became the leading ski area in the East Tyrol. The Gamslift (T-bar) and Brunnerlift (T-bar) followed. In 1995 the ski area went in to partnership with the Sölden lift company and several regional banks and three new quad chairs were built, including Figol and Gschloss, with a fourth quad, Beschneiungsanlage, added in 2000. Later its ski slopes were connected to those of neighbouring Matrei.

There are great views from the top of the lifts, with over 60 peaks more than 3000m high including the nearby Großglockner.

The Goldried ski area has constantly improved over the years. There's a gondola lift and snowmaking from top to bottom over a world class vertical that would put it in the top five ski areas by vertical in North America. The 12km (seven mile) Cima Ross run down to the resort is the longest piste in the East Tirol.

Facilities include a half pipe for snowboarders and Bobo's Kinderland with play park, conveyer lift and a separate area for children's ski school with warm-up area.
