I must apologise that none of the eight Michelin starred restaurants in Megeve offer the Scottish delicacies of deep fried mars bars :shock:

We are fortunate to still have a studio in St Gervais, We love Megeve, we can drive there in 20mins or ski over from St G. Yes the restruants are expensive both in the town and up the mountian. I could take you to a nice reasonable crepe house just off the beaten track in the town centre but can't remember what is called :) But on a sunny day get as far over as you can from the Alpetthut and the skiings fantastic and not too busy, because people can't be bothered to traverse that far over. I think one long red run is called "Jardine" its fast plenty of rolling jumps a super run )

Any resort is expensive if you eat out all the time, indulge in a lot of apres ski & visit the top restaurants. My last 2 holidays have been in St.Gervais/Megeve & I think I've achieved good value for money (considering the exchange rate). I'd rather keep costs to a minimum so I can stay for more days :-) . My budget doesn't allow for catered chalets & lunches on the mountain, so I self cater & take a picnic. The great thing about the area is that there are places specifically built for you to go inside & eat your own food. If it's sunny, you can sit out to eat your lunch & enjoy the stunning scenery. A baguette from the bakery in town for 0.55 €, & a flask of hot chocolate - it doesn't get any cheaper than that! We had our evening meal on Christmas Day in a really nice pizza restaurant in St. Gervais for just under 80 € for 5 of us.

The area lift pass is cheaper than many other European resorts & it's a lovely area. I've only stayed in St.Gervais rather than Megeve, but its easy to find apartments that are both relatively inexpensive & flexible on change over days (cheaper mid-week flights). I can't comment on the off-piste - I only ever go near it if something goes horribly wrong!

I'd say that it's only expensive if you allow it to be )

Pretty interesting in places, easiest to access is Mont Joly of course with masses of terrain up and down the lift. For more excitement it's possible to drop into Les Contamines from there, or vice versa, and ski out towards Cote 2000 dropping onto the bus route. Likewise Combloux offers some good possibilities.

I think so.....12 € in total. However the mayo & Tommy K were free, so I made sure I put plenty on!!
