Les Mosses - 6th Form School trip
Started by User in Switzerland, 8 Replies
France has certainly overtaken Switzerland in the price stakes in recent seasons; I would expect prices to be largely similar to Austria (apart, perhaps, from the very ritziest resorts!)

For more on Les Mosses have a look at:

Face piste at Val D'isere - how difficult?

FEWER hotheads maybe, but the OK gets very. very, very busy towards the end of the day as people head for the scrum that is otherwise known as the bus queue at La Daille!

I've only ever done it when it has been really bumpy - and busy, Serious moguls, steep pitch equals a genuine black.

Not a run I'd recommend to a third or fourth week skier usually, but it's a free country......
The Ski Helmet Debate
Started by Admin in Ski Hardware, 491 Replies, discussing Tignes and Val Thorens
The other thing I meant to say was that when I started playing cricket, the use of helmets was largely scoffed at. Now it is mandatory for all under-18s to wear them when batting. And most who do continue to wear them as they become over 18. I think the same is likely to happen with ski helmets.

As for Europe or the US being the first to load insurance premiums unless someone wears a lid, my money is still on the States - an openly litigious society (although we're catching up quite quickly in that regard!)
The Ski Helmet Debate

Once upon a time, I thought wearing a helmet would make me look like a wannabee racer or Eric Sperimental (say it quickly!).

But now I am not in the slightest bit self-conscious about it, having been smacked in the swede by the safety bar, with helmet on thankfully, by a very hasty German on a chairlift.

Don't feel properly equipped unless I have the lid on - and in most respects I am quite old school, having started ski-ing in 1972! I also boxed, played rugby for years, did judo to a high level, without the slightest thought of wearing head protection (wore a gumshield, though).

I accept it's a personal choice, but I have the feeling it won't be too long before wearing a helmet becomes compulsory to validate ski insurance (especially in North America).
Travel Channel

For those who can't get enough ski-ing on the telly and who have Sky digital etc, Wednesday nights are now quite good.

Raiders of the Lost Snow is on the Travel Channel at 9pm followed at 9.30pm by Skiers' World. Both programmes are repeated on Travel Channel +1 an hour alter.

Raiders of the Lost Snow is a lighthearted show that seeks out unusual snow destinations. Skiers' World features resort reports, usually one Swiss and one Canadian each episode, plus ski tips from Canadian instructors.

A very pleasant way to while away an hour!
Where to do a season in Europe??

The resort of Fernie in Canada was virtually run by Australians on my two visits. Indeed, if you shut your eyes and just listened, you could have been in Randwick or Illawara!
