I too cannot draw or paint (not that I have ever applied myself to either) but it reminded me of the best run I have done in my short skiing life, when I came down the length of the piste with my ski poles held in 'picture frame' position doing beautiful feeling turns, to a well done from my instructor :) Maybe art and skiing are linked. I believe that, LindyLou. I link painting, poetry, and songwriting to skiing. How could we not? The mountains are so beautiful, and so are most of the people you meet. You describe the feeling of skiing perfectly. |

My lovely OH has decided I need a new pair of sallos, ( a surprise Christmas present). Given that my existing sallos are scarely worn, only 25 weeks skiing, i just deem that as total waste. I would rather spendmore on lift passes.
In spite of my protests, I attended today, five climbing/ski shops plus TK Max. Again, I encountered the £250 sallos, and they have the same poor design & manufacture features. The main thing that struck me is that there were hardly any sallos on offer. The offer seemed to be 90% ski trousers ~ (I blame the influence of boarders!) The best were the lowest cost in Mountain Warehouse, but only offered S,M,XXL! I did see some well made jackets and trousers, but I think they must have been designed by a ballet dancer, no pockets to speak of. Looks like my existing sallos are heading towards 30 weeks! |

Thanks, Finn. I had to take Herbert to task last year ~ one of the barns was in bad condition ~ so he knocked it down! ![]() |

Aha Rusty, you may have to wait until January to find out! |

Dids, nobody would lose! Well, maybe if a number of J2skiers tried, I might lose! Although I have always drawn, as part of my engineering work, I have painted watercolours for only 12 years. People pick up skills quite quickly. Oh, and none of you are getting to see the draw full of failures! |

In my fav resort, I have tried all the service shops, settled on one. Over the years, the charge has fallen to the point that I almost feel guilty. Almost.
I also can go into the shop at any time of the day, ask for an edge sharpen, go into the service room, and watch them do it. One advantage is I can ask for a particular edge angle. Then, in the bar at night, I buy them a beer. As I do for the lifties. |

Carol, over the J2ski years, so many people have said that to me. I take the view that anyone can learn to do this. It does help that I am am an engineer, and drawing has been a form of communication. Forby that, I still believe that all J2skiers could try and draw what they see, adjust, and get a result. Keep trying, and improve. Drawing and painting are two skill sets, both can be learned. It fits in well with ski life. |
