I think hubby will be doing most of the driving as he "doesnt like the way I drive" unless he has had a drink (as alcohol doesnt really interest me) in which case I am allowed to drive!! Hubby has driven in France before. It was ok most places except the arc de triumph!!

The main things I wanted to know were

Is it compulsory for the kids to have booster seats?
Are the speed limits the same or are they properly signed what speed you can go? (we are taking our own car btw)
What about signage? I know on the programme I watched they went round a ferry load of people with different road signs and noone had a clue what they were (including me!)
How do I find out what I need to cover the headlights or what I need in the boot. I remember reading a while back saying I needed a high vis jacket and triangle and something else but I cant remember. with regard to the high vis jacket, do I need to have 1 for each passenger?

Karen

Hi Karen, you will need a set of beam benders cost around £6, The high vis jacket is for the driver only £3, you also will need the reflective triangle Price not sure I have had mine years. Don't panic most of it is common sense

Dave, where are you staying LGb or chinaillon 8)

If you're staying in Chinaillon then I have always used these people they have always looked after me in the past,
not really up to date on their ski service charges as I service my own these days. Hope this helps 8)

Dave sorry I left this off

This is what i think you need:

boots for walking when not skiing
ski socks - at least 2 pairs
base layer trousers
salopettes
base layer top
fleece jumper
ski jacket
good gloves with wrist protector and removable linings
balaclava/neck warmer
goggles
sun glasses
hat
backpack
snacks (1 snickers + cereal bar per day)
flask + cuppa soups
camera
LIP BALM
sun cream

I see some of this stuff has been suggested - it was easier to list everything i took to make sure i didnt miss out on anything

have a great trip

What you wear is very individual I have never worn thermals, my preference is for a cotton under top, but these are getting more difficult to find, I do have a neck warmer brought a couple of years ago for -24 conditions, a jacket, salopettes and old pair of socks which I have had for 10 tears which are really comfortable, gloves, I'm a non helmet wearer so I wear sun glasses and goggles for poor light, and a hat, plus the most important item my hip flask with my preferred tipple at the moment cognac. Last piece of equipage is my vid camera which of cause Mrs W carries in her rucksack.

sami_glasgow wrote:yeah the hire people dont seen very helpful when boot fitting beginners/inexperienced people...a little advice on how tight the boot should be, and what pain should NOT be put up with, would go a long way

the lesson i learned is definately go with private lessons...2x2hour lessons came out around the same price as 5x2hour group lessons but i learned so much in that time

always warm up and warm down

and lastly

push yourself and try those red runs that look scary and blacks by the end if you are brave enough

You had a bad experience but not all hire shops are as bad as you have experienced. 8)

He does'nt belive me that he will need them this time. So a quick trip to TKmax this morning I think. Men.......

They are too far away from Geneva to match your criteria, very small resorts and hardly anyone ever goes there.

MMMmmm It's really not too far I've driven to Sion many times

About Ihr 45 mins Now thats not far !!!!!!!
