Why give your hard earned money to the tour operators I have been organizing my own ski trips for the past 10 years independently.
Got really fed up up with the drunken idiots that we came across, the final straw was when one was sick on the coach to resort. Never again. So now I drive, share a chalet with my brother in law and actually get some change out of a couple of grand.

Have never been to Valdelinares but the area write ups are very good, I have been to la molina many years ago,and I always check the snow conditions each year and they always seem very reliable.
Ski & Snowboard shows

I have been to the shows quite a few times including Birmingham where I brought my first pair of skis. I prefer London where I can go to the show for a couple of hours then into the west end and do the tourist bit. Not to sure if I am going this year though. It's quite good fun and I don;t think the entrance fees are too expensive.

In thirty years of skiing I have never wore thermals just a pair of cycling shorts, perhaps its the benefit of being on the the large size.

La Thuile might be a good bet nice village but is a bit low at 1300 meters, but the skiing is great also links to La Rossier in
france.
I had a long weekend in Passo tonale and it was cheap but the skiing for me was just a bit up and down.
I guess to best thing is to check out the early season snow and book late should be plenty of accommodation the week before xmas.
