When do the Cairngorms normally open?

It's looking good just now. White out, blizzards, 80mph wind, gusting to 110mph.
Ally,

were you change to an Android mobile, Orange do a contract offer of £7 per month. At the time I took this out, you could also get £60 cash back on Quidco. So a 12 month contract, allowing heaps of texts/calls/internet usage, cost me £24.00.

I think the Quidco offer is reduced now, to about £30.00. Still a good deal.
It is repeated at 1.00am.

Mr Nelly usually takes a hipflask with JD in it on holiday then forgets it most days. Last year he packed it in his hand luggage and we had the choice to either leave the customs area and empty it in the loo, therefore having to queue again or drinking it.

Needless to say we drank it, despite it being 6am. Nice start to the holiday :D

And I'm guessing that Mr Nelly is planning to pack the JD hipflask in his hand baggage again! :-)

First thing - if you come to Selva ( or Val Gardena ) fly to Innsbruck. And look at Innsbruck for access to other areas in the Dolomites - much easier that Venice. The answers above are all sound, IMHO. Gte in touch if you need more. Ciao, Tim

How reliable are the flights into Innsbruck and also the road links then between there and Alta Badia ? I generally go there once a year but have always flown into Venice till now. Might be interested in trying a different route in next winter (we are driving over from Austria to Pedraces this coming summer but i guess the roads will be very different in come january compared to june!).

Dave

Have done the opposite direction when I did the Klosters/Davos/Arrabba/Kitzbuhel/Niederau trip. The Brenner Pass is kept well oiled, so, my guess would be, if conditions are good enough to fly into Innsbruck, you will have clear roads through to South Tyrol. And if the conditions are not good enough to fly into Innsbruck, by the time you get there the snow conditions wil be Fabulous!
Borovets ski pass, buy home or resort?

Fair enough, Stewart, you are a top man. I use other sources of info to yourself. You are right to point out the weather forecast issue. That does change every day.

Borovets to be -19 deg this week, nearly as cold as Braemar!

55cm upper, 40cm lower, not great, but hardly "poor". Currently doing 40cm a week. Depth 244cm last season, over 200cm in resort.

For the lift pass decision, I would suggest the same as any other resort. You look at the brochure offer. You look at the in-resort price on the Borovets website. Convert the price from Levs to £s. Look at the difference. If it is close, go with the brochure, because it saves you time having the lift pass delivered to your hotel. You can still buy on the transfer bus.

Some good skiing in Borovets, over 2500m, and they seem to have improved the lift system. Also, one of the best ski schools I have come across.
