Grand Montets Chamonix

Grand Montets are steep, but red runs are very skiable, just take it easy and it will all click. You can actually ski from the top of Bochard gondola all the way down to Argentier lift. As for the black Point de vue, if you are really up for it, I'd recommend take a lesson. It's a "piste" but it's not groomed, so you need to be able to adjust your technique to the terrain. You also need to be able to ski bumps and/or throw in an occasional hop turn here and there. It's a very long descent too. But it's probably one of the most spectacular runs ever, well worth attempting. If you are good red runs skiers with some instruction you should be able to do it.
Verbier and Chamonix Valley

Verbier is more reknown for off-piste, maybe Courmayeur would indeed be a better option. It's also closer and if you have a ski pass you pay less to go through Mont-Blanc tunnel. as for the road to Verbier, you need to go in the direction of Vallorcine-Chatelard-Trient-Martigny, after Martigny follow the signs to Verbier;) Park at Le Chable.
Verbier - Wow! What an ski area!

You will have to park at Le Chable which is below Verbier and from where you can take a gondola up. Parking space in Verbier itself is really limited particularly after a big public parking lot became a construction site. There is another parking but you may not be lucky enough to get space there, so Le Chable is a much better option.

Regarding skiing - you can loop red run called M25 if you prefer pistes or ski the new Mayentzet chairlift. I would say that piste skiing on Verbier side is not super exciting, it's much better on 4 Vallées side, but you may need to pay a supplement to go there.

The perils of skiing alone ...

When I first learned to ski a few years back all my ski buddies were far more advanced skiers, probably experts as they'd been skiing all their lives, so I was often left to loop pistes on my own while they were skiing itineraries or off-piste. We part after the morning lift, meet for lunch and then for apres, sometimes at the day end they would make a lapse or two with me or we ski down to the village together. I didn't particularly mind this. But now I can follow anyone pretty much everywhere without holding them back so I don't ski alone.

Go to the website www.gare-routier.ch and chose Stationes Alpines in the menu. I think you can even buy tickets online. You have a choice of departure points - Geneva or Airport
