Like your painting.
Next time I go skiing I really want it to be to Austria.

They are not secrets, Dids, I am proud of my 40+ years association with Niederau. I worked there as an instructor for four years, and I love helping people out with information.

But one person on this forum persistently denigrates or snipes at the mere mention of the place. Hence I keep it off the forum. But I am always happy to help people out with information ~ I'm afraid I can't help knowing a lot about the place! -)

Sorry peeps, I have been answering dozens of PMs about Niederau, and I have no way of sending this painting by pm.

It is true that leaves are a good insulator, and that they block the light.

The principle of snowhole is that snow is an insulator. I guess it depends on the ambient ground temp, which could vary significantly either way from the air temp.

Wind slab avalanches can occur where the ground is above freezing, but the surface is well minus.

I guess there are a lot of variables.
I had checked up for a 2 week February trip, and they were looking at over $800! This kind of fluidity may make sense for the US short term market, but makes difficult to plan ahead, when you have to juggle the air fare & car hire prices.
Matt, you should know that we have had ski J2two skiing weddings in Austria, at least one in the Wildschönau!

Fluffy snowmen! FQ, I had you down as a hard mountain man!

My method of getting to sleep, is to start at the top of my favourite mountain, (in my case, the Marbachjoch), and dream turns. Halfway down, I start again from the top, so never actually reach the bottom!

Sometimes, I get sidetracked if I have been thinking of words for a new ski song ~ I should never do this before bed!

Just a few sleeps for me, then I will meet up with a wheen of J2skiers ~ over four consecutive weeks!

Have a good time in Tignes, FQ, Ally, and all the other J2skiers. It was in my plan, but I couldn't make it work this year.
