Not a dumb question at all. It will probably be a lot colder in January. Make sure you take lots of layers - some good base layers would be sensible. Take at least two pairs of gloves so that you can dry one off while wearing the others. Glove liners are also good. Take some goggles/eye wear that is good for low light levels.

Crikey. Forecasts this far out are not going to be very dependable. In the last 4 years, Whistler's first opening date was 17-23 November.

Didn't know that Sud-Tirol is an autonomous region. Thanks, Cazzz and Flat Country skier. Mind you, I'd take the miserably underfunded La Thuile over La Rosiere any day of the week (* - I have no idea if the Italian government throws lots of cash at the Aosta Valley autonomous region :) ).

What's the best ski in ski out chalet you've ever stayed in?

Stayed at an apartment in Risoul where you could ski to your balcony, chuck the skis and yourself over the balcony into the apartment. Then climb over the balcony and ski to the lifts. The balcony was on the ground floor BTW> :) . You could also ski to within 10 feet of the boot room door.

Blinking scary. That moment when you see the snowpack slip must be horrible

Get. Some. Winter. Tyres. 4x4 on summer tyres in snow will be rubbish.
