Carol,
have only stayed in the summer but would not hesitate to recommend the Jägerhof where you will be well looked after by Renate and her team there. Excellent food and very friendly atmosphere where staff could not do more for you to ensure you have a great holiday. Hotel is situated 3-4 min walk from the village main gondola but there is a lift directly outside the hotel and moving walkway in tunnel below which takes you directly to the Fimbabahn gondola which takes you to the main Ldap ski area. The tunnel also takes you to the main street in the village just outside an Intersport shop The middle and top station of the Fimbabahn are very close to the middle and top stations on the main Silvretta gondola in Ischgl. Can see the routes of the lifts on the www.ischgl.at website. hope this helps, David |

Hi Nelly,
we went to Obergurgl this March and really enjoyed it. We are both intermediates and found the resort great for confidence building as the runs are all fairly wide reds with some steeper blacks, but all achievable due to runs being wide. Some fantastic views over into Italian Dolomites and down to the village. A visit to the Nederhutte is a must (just search youtube for some videos of the fun! :D ) The better runs are in Hochgurgl which is easily reached by the Top Express or by bus. Mainly chairs with only a a couple of drags at the far end of hochgurgl, which is worth a visit as not many folk use the drags. Lots of easy off-piste near the runs to build confidence in the fluffy stuff which we found great fun :D :D . Some great wee runs through the trees lower down in Obergurgl(again Youtube http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NX4btsI3OLM "obergiggle" to see some fun!) Lifts were all quiet with no queues. There is a Ski Club rep in resort who we skied with most days and was excellent taking us to areas we may not have visited ourselves. One downside is due to altitude it can be windy but we had a fantastic week where it snowed at night and was sunny during the day. Quite a quiet resort at night but you can find entertainment in the resort bars. Night skiing available twice a week as well as a firework display and instructor ski show on the Tuesday. Resort looked good for borders although there were not many about (perhaps due to age profile there)and there are no half-pipes etc. Lift pass can be extended to the Glacier resort of Solden (think this is where the World up starts each year) for a day which is a short bus trip down the valley. Certainly think there is plenty skiing to do for a week unless you are a true piste basher who doesn't want to ski a run twice. We came back and booked again for March 2010 ! We went with TO and stayed in the Lohman which is a modern hotel a short walk to the main gondola. Mainly Austrian and Germans staying at this hotel with only one English speaking couple apart from ourselves. Accommodation and food was good and very helpful staff (as much beer and wine with evening meal included in the half board). Hotels in resort do seem a bit more expensive than other Austrian resorts although there is some chalet accommodation where some folk were staying who had made their own way there. (don't know any detail) Hope this helps a bit. |

The jackets look fake and match descriptions one guy posted on ebay. Specific reference was given to sales tag placement and apparently Spyder tags will always be on arm and never on zipper like in the photos of women's jackets. Also would usually advertise jackets with formal reference to the Spyder name, Vail, Zermatt etc. Expensive for fakes as fakes can be bought in bulk very cheaply. http://reviews.ebay.co.uk/fake-spyder-on-ebay_W0QQugidZ10000000003832688 |

Sami,
try the ski shop Ski 'N Boardroom in Partick, you'll find their number in the phone book or their website http://www.skinboardroom.co.uk/. They run day and weekend trips up north so may be worth trying. Great shop for gear by the way :D and always v knowledgeable and helpful staff on site. David |

From experience I have nothing but praise for the skill and dedication of the instruction at the red ski school. They make the learning experience fun and I have always made good progress through the encouragement of the instructors and techniques taught. Have had lessons there the past 3 years and the instruction is excellent. All speak excellent English and there are also a number of native English speaking instructors.
As Dave Mac said the instructors are all highly trained and from what I can gather the instructor qualifications in the Tirol are very tough to achieve. I have no hesitation in recommending the red ski school. |

ellistine,
great post about obergurgl. Me and the OH are heading there on 21st March staying in the Lohmann and this resort sounds ideal, looking forward to our trip even more now, only 6 weeks on Saturday :D On the subject of Austrian urinals I think I can yours with this one I just had to take in Seefeld on our summer trip:
Hope I don't kick of some sort of weird competition now  ! |

I booked via Thomson this year, now same as Crystal, and they use the Reds.
From what I remember I think it is First Choice who use the Blues. |

As has been said personal choice whether cash or use card in resort to withdraw cash. here is a cash machine in Neiderau resort. Would suggest that the moneysavingexpert.com website gives good unbiased comparison in the best bank debit cards to take if you wish to use a cash machine in resort.
Personally as I was half-board I just took euros and a cash card 'just in case'. |
