Maria Alm, Austria

Maria Alm is a lovely spot, we stayed there last summer.

Around 20-30 drive away is the Kitzsteinhorn glacier just above Kaprun, so the snow will be guaranteed.

They will will try and keep the skiing going in the lower areas until the Easter holidays have been and gone.

Hope you have a great week, if you have time have a look around the Church in Maria Alm.

Kind regards

Derek
Biking in Bad Hofgastein

Hi Benny Boy and Kerch,

A belated reply, I know that at Wagrain half a hour or so by car away from the Gastein valley are geared up to taking bikes up the mountain via the ski lift, they even have maps to plan out your route along with a bike assault type course.

As Kerch says they are missing a trick.

At Sallbach and Hinterglemm they are heavily into the mountain bike scene, and also in Kaprun where the European or World Championship? were held a few years back.

I suggest you wait to next May, for the white stuff to go!

Bad Gastein - New Years Eve

I think a must is the a visit to the Thermal spa, opposite the railway station. If not on New Years Eve at some stage during your stay, super place to recuperate after a hard day skiing.

But maybe you were thinking of another type of "refreshment"

enjoy
Transfer from Airport to Kaprun

There are regular transfers into resort by scheduled bus service ( the no. 260)the timetable changes in the New Year, and it takes around 1 1/2 to two hours in journey time.

There are by private coach transfer summer and winter.

The alternatives are by the excellent Austrian rail service from Salzburg to Zell am See, and from there a 10 minute taxi / bus ride takes you into Kaprun. For those guests who prefer to hire a car, a number of hire companies operate from Salzburg Mozart's airport. The route from the airport is an easy to find / drive route and mainly by motorway or "A" roads.

My advice would be that for the numbers and the convenience it would be better to hire cars. (If you buy some shares in Avis you can get 20% off the hire fees). You can then even have a day a day in the Gastien valley the thermal spas are a must. Or go up to Sallbach and Hinterglemm and do the tour, clockwise anti-clockwise.

Whatever you decide I feel sure that you will have a great time in Kaprun and Zell am See.
