I would suggest there will be enough snow at that timer of the year this year.
The Kitzsteinhorn glacier above Kaprun would be about a 30 minute drive. Last year it stayed open until June and opened up again in October, so there is a plan B readily on hand. I know for a few Euros you can upgrade the Kaprun / Zell am See ski pass, there may be a reverse reciprocal deal? Have a great time. |

Austria every time, alpine atmosphere, history, great food and fantastic views.
With the Kitzsteinhorn glacier above Kaprun / Zell am See there is even a snow guarantee. Walking across the frozen lake at Zell, a ice hockey match, apres Ski. I think the icing on the cake is the Tauern Spa Kaprun, just superb, just what you need after a full day on the slopes. A bit biased but Austria every time. |

Hi you will have a great time, ski areas of Zell am See and the one at Kaprun which includes the Kitzsteinhorn glacier at 3000 m+ there quite a view while you ski!
[Info not advertising please - Admin] A hot chocolate in the Grand Hotel i would recommend and a walk across the lake at Zell am See if it freezes is quite novel. Apart from the obvious apres ski activities. I feel sure you will have a fantastic time. Derek P.S. If you have the opportunity try the spas in Gastein Valley. PPS. Spa-World-Kaprun is scheduled to open in November 2010, and at 85 million Euros will be worth coming back for! |

Try the Spas at Bad Gastein and Hofgastein they are both superb especially after a hard days skiing. A new Spa opens in Kaprun in December 2010 called Tauern Spa World Kaprun, so it might be worth going back for then?

Hi there is a list of ski schools on the attached link, http://www.austria-holiday-apartment.com/location.php
along with links to ski schools in Kaprun. There is a nursery slope in Kaprun, but most of the ski instructors will take you up the mountain, to find a easy bit to start you off skiing. Enjoy |

Intersport, in the village centre next to the tourist office is pretty central. If you have a car you can even drive down into the basement. Booking in advance makes it a bit cheaper. Attached link gives you a list of ski schools and they might be able to advice.
I feel sure you will have a fantastic time. Derek Austria |

Hi, Kaprun with the Kitzsteinhorn glacier there will be plenty of snow. The ski bus takes about 10 minutes to take you from the village of Kaprun up to the glacier ski lift.
If you go on Youtube and type in Kaprun, there are a number of videos to watch. There is one from May last year and there was plenty of snow. There are around a dozen restaurants not sure how many will be open at that time of year. But great food and fantastic views at the top station on the Kitzsteinhorn. The restaurant at the station below is great, plenty of food in a buffet style. Plenty of reports of snow and the website at http://en.kitzsteinhorn.at/ will give you more information. I have pasted some advertised events, posted by the tourist board. I would recommend the events at Kaprun's medieval castle, and also in the village square next to the tourist office, there is a lively bar. There is a swimming pool, with an outside bit! and a sauna. I feel sure your niece will have a great time. Derek P.S. Out there two years ago, great ski safari circle around the mountain. It is a large interconnected ski area, you can go clockwise or anti-clockwise, but need to start early in the day.
Also suggest you go and see a ice hockey match, great fun, they even have a " drum band" to add to the atmosphere. Derek |
