Just out of interest, does anyone know if you can get a mountainbike up the lifts in Bad Gastein/Hofgastein?? I am off there tomorrow for 5 days for some mountain biking and potentially a bit of glacier skiing somewhere :D
Im not really up for cycling to the top so would rather take the lifts! I know some places you can take bikes up but not sure if this is the case in BH.

Bennyboy,
I've just been searching for post to do with Bad Hofgastein ... did you have any luck getting uplift in the valley? I've biked there in the past and they don't normally let you on any of the lifts other than the gondola in Dorfgastein. Even then they turf you out at halfway.
I think they're missing a treat here because there are some good trails to be found higher up.
Cheers

Hi Benny Boy and Kerch,
A belated reply, I know that at Wagrain half a hour or so by car away from the Gastein valley are geared up to taking bikes up the mountain via the ski lift, they even have maps to plan out your route along with a bike assault type course.
As Kerch says they are missing a trick.
At Sallbach and Hinterglemm they are heavily into the mountain bike scene, and also in Kaprun where the European or World Championship? were held a few years back.
I suggest you wait to next May, for the white stuff to go!

Nah never did get the bike up the mountain in the end, every lift station i tried refused me! Quite annoying really, cos there were some awesome tracks and little roads winding back down to the valley.
Saalbach wasnt too hot on bikes in 2005 when i was there in the summer but im sure they have changed now, would be cool to go back there (winter preferably obviously  )

Was in Hinterglemm in summer 2000, for alpine walks, they were holding a mountain bike world tour event. Hot stuff.
