An odd title on a ski forum at first glance, but serious intent.
I have a funny old thing happens whenever I am going skiing and I have decided to pluck up the courage to post on it. :D Maybe brave or even foolhardy - only time will tell. I get to the slopes, up a lift or whatever - and I find myself having no idea whether I can remember how to ski! This isn't being a bit rusty on the first day and, of course, cognitively - I know full well I can ski. 30+ years of doing it tells me quite clearly that I can ski! But I don't seem to feel like I know. I have shared this with a few people on holdays to mixed reception from laughter to agreement - "Yes, that happens to me". I mentioned this last year to some laughter - one person admitted to something similar. A little later the ski instructor with us quietly spoke to me and said he gets this at the start of every season! One year he was in a real pickle as he had to do a re-evaluation at the beginning of the season and, for one reason and another, the first time with his skis on and the first run since the previous year was part of this evaluation. He told me he was really quite scared! Just wondering who else gets this? Not looking for a solution - got used to it - just another little quirk of my nature! |

You can get solid plastic hard cases that would offer a lot more protection

Me thinks, Adders, that you are just hedging your bets in case someone books a ski holiday and there is no snow - in case you get a jail sentence like other predictors of naturally occuring phenomea.
 Now me ..... Totally confident in my prediction that, YES, it will snow in December this year. In fact I will bet my ski holiday on this happening. |

Nearly the end of page two before degeneration set in.
Well done!! Restraint - Adders will be proud. |

Had some 240cm KL skis in the boot room. Couldn't lift the b*****s let alone rest them on my boot. :D |

In the days when skis were a proper length ....
 I used to hoik up the tails and stand them on top of my ski boot when in a cablecar or whatever. Extra 3" or 4" that way. |

I have always found the Tignes landscape - including buildings - quite majestic in the setting.
This area is not the lovely chocolate box views of an alpine village but is something different. Even Val Claret!! The view up the valley from Le Lac to the upper valley and Val Claret is great. |

165 to 168 ish over recent year @ 5'9"
But was given a pair of 172 Sultan Legends which were lovely and didn't feel long. Also the BBR last winter was 176 - so noticeably longer than any ski since skinny skis were superceded by carvers etc. With rocker becoming more common am I correct in thinking that this pushes up the suggested length by c 10cm? |
