Welcome!!

Go small to midsize, avoid mega resorts, go somewhere internationl where English is commonplace and get lessons. If you are skiing and not snowboarding, I would recommend Grindelwald in Switzerland. You can get the train all the way into resort (it's gonna be a decent trip, but I don't mind assisting with the planning if you like). Extremely friendly, inexpensive for Switzerland and plenty to do if an entire week skiing sounds daunting straight off. I would even take the TO out the equation, talk directly to a helpful hotel and do it yourself. This way cost can be kept down, you can tailor according your needs and it takes out any unknowns.

Whatever you decide, have a great time, you will never look back :D

If Grenoble is anything like Chambery, the I would have no idea which of the 3 different places we collected our stuff from, your bags may come from or indeed which of the 27 buses the two of you may be put on seperately. Tie this is with a landing which seemed like he spotted a runway from 10,000 feet and then switched the plane off and it's quite a pleasant experience.

Trains are what you want, no check in, no baggage supplements and they cant fly.

It's not 5 hours from Innsbruck, it about 2.5/3hrs 8)
Its 5 hours when the tour ops decide to fly you into Italian airports unfortunately.

Don't use TO's guys

I agree. Give me 10% of the overall balance of your holiday and I will save you 20%.

Get a real stressful job, drink too much and smoke.

None of my organs work properly, but I look good for it.

Seriously, there is no substitute for excercise and it need not be strenuous. Walk everywhere, and I mean everywhere. Ditch the car and take public transport. Never use lifts or escalators. Play a competative sport like squash against someone closely matched once or twice a week, this is excellent cardiovascular excercise if you don't do what I first suggested ) It also has the benefit of building all the muscles in the lower half of the body and builds up a certain tolerence for impact. Eating need not be bland and boring, look for tasty alternatives. Milk as already mentioned is what I put my overall health down to, I drink about 2 litres a day of 1.5% fat and have done since I was about 12. Never take on something that bores you, it will have the opposite effect in my opinion.

Announcing to two skiing pals(novices) at the top of the Tux, that they could just bomb this top section as it was 'absolutely impossible to hurt yourself'. So I set off in my style of the time, facing forwards, fast and fearless, only to be found 2 minutes later by afforemetioned pals lying in bank of snow bleeding from my face and screaming in agony clutching an ankle that would put me out of action for 2 days whilst undergoing remonstrations from a female skier, whos head I had missed by inches when travelling about 40ft through the air. Everytime I try and sell an idea these days all I get is renditions of 'it's absolutely impossible......'

Next day at the doctor, when asked how and where I did this injury that required x-rays, nasty painkillers and physio, I replied 'top of the glacier, about 400m down'. He asked 'how did you get down the rest of the way, did the piste control bring you down?' clearly concerned about my impending insurance claim. To which I said ' I snowboarded down'. Not very funny really, but the bollocking the very cute nurse got when she started giggling was hilarious and worth the 300 EUR my insurers didn't pay out.

Walking into Scotty's after taking a bum-slide on the ice past the Mooserwirt bar in St. Anton, to meet up with Tony, Skidaddle and crew only to announce 'F**K, my A**E' at full volume. Much to the amusement everyone who didn't have the benefit of written grammer to aid the interpretation of this sentence..
Anyone booked for next season yet?

I don't know I'm quite there to be honest, but I have never riden like that before, it actually feels like re-discovering the whole thing. I've never done lessons, because I hate direction (and I would certainly not advocate my approach) but I feel immensly proud tonight.
