Alpe d'huez would probably meet your requirements quite well. Its fairly close to Grenoble, has lots of really nice skiing for beginners, good selection for intermediates and a lovely big open air swimming pool that is included in the lift pass (though you will need Speedo type swimming trunks  - its a French requirement). While the resort is quite large and there are a good few large, relatively ugly apartment blocks, it still manages to retain a reasonable atmosphere. I have always used Crystal clubhotels when there so can't really help with accommodation but resort website will have links that you can check out. It can also be worth checking with Tour Operators as they might have spaces that they would be happy to unload cheaply on an accommodation only basis.
Best of luck and enjoy your trip. |

Just back from a great week in ADH myself. Stayed in Crystal's Hermitage Clubhotel and had kids with me so not out and about too much. Beer in the hotel seemed to vary from €3.50 to €5 depending on the time and evening. They also had a two for one one of the evenings. Most bars have a happy hour at some stage so should be possible to have a few without breaking the bank.
For lunch, we went to the La Tabourle (at the Rond Point most days). It is probably quite expensive but it was so convenient. We often split a pizza (delicious for about €12) and a plate of chips €5 - not too bad. But the coffee - great but over €4 a pop  |

Hi Tony
Travelled with Jet2 on my recent trip to France (chartered by Crystal) and found them fine. Pretty much the same as any charter airline. Not much space but otherwise ok. One bright spot - they gave us a meal on the flight and it was quite nice as airline food goes. Enjoy your trip. Off myself to Austria on 7th for a long weekend - probably Soll. Really looking forward to it. Its now been more than 1 week since my last trip  |

For total beginners, I would always recommend going to ski school for as much of the day as the local ski schools will provide. For the first few days, you will be quite limited in what you can do (but don't worry, you will learn fast). Rather than going off on your own and risk ending up completely terrified on a piste that you are not capable of or worse still hurting yourself, I think you are better off with an instructor who will know exactly what you are capable of.
BTW, be prepared to acquire a new obsession  |

Surely, there would be loads of helicopters flying between two such posh resorts that you could hitch a lift with

I have also used Crystal on a few occasions when the kids were still very young and found them pretty good. A number of the clubhotels and larger chalets have creche facilities on site, e.g. Valle Blanche in Alpe D'Huez or Totem in Flaine, so you don't even have to bring the child out in the mornings to drop them off and as Russco pointed out, you can relax at the bar once you have them down in the evenings. They also do early kiddie meals which also help. Don't forget to pack the baby monitor - an essential piece of kit for happy parents . |

The following exchange took place between my 6 year old daughter and her mother on our recent ski trip:
Daughter: "Mum, I would like to bring a present back home for my childminder" Mum: "Thats a nice idea. Did you have anything in mind?" Daughter: "Yes. do you think they sell Nicorette here?"   |

Anybody out there able to offer me accommodation in Soll (or a nearby resort) for 3 people for 3 nights from Saturday, 7th of March? Ideally should be located close to lifts but in town is fine.
