In my view, some people have more awareness of their actions than others. I also think that this awareness is something that you gain with age. After all, you only have to look at the comparative costs of car insurance for younger and older drivers.

Generally when we choose our slidey weapon of choice, be it skis or boards, there will always be an element of loyalty to it. This loyalty can sometimes make us discriminate against the other discipline.

Having said all that, I'm sure the 'drumming' sound of a fast approaching snowboard is what makes some people nervous of them.

Was that diplomatic enough?

Luckily, as I've only been skiing for four years, even my oldest gear ain't that old but I can still recognise a splendidly awful 'one piece' when I see one.

In 2014 I'll be celebrating (or consoling) my 40th Birthday. I think a trip to Sochi to experience the Olympics might be quite a good way to mark the occasion.

My partners 40th is in 2012 - The year of the London Olympics. The sailing events are being held here in our home town. Perhaps I'll just take her to see a sailing event or two :P
With the recent news that the 2014 Winter Olympics games is to be held in the Russian resort of Sochi, is it time to start booking accomodation?

As I spend a lot of time destroying my skis on a plastic artificial slope, base 'recovery' would be helpfull.
I have a pair of Salomon Performer 8's with the single Left-Right cuff adjuster on the side. I've realised tonight that my boots have been conspiring against me.

8 or so weeks ago an instructor said I should check the cuff adjustment as I'm bow legged. I had already adjusted them to what I thought was correct but to my amazement It appeared I had adjusted them in completely the wrong direction. The were readjusted and felt vastly better.

Tonight I looked at them again and to my amazement they were again incorrectly adjusted.

It now appears that over time the cuff adjustment, when adjusted for bow legged ie cuffs outwards, returns to it's cuff inwards position.

Might be worth checking if anybody else has similar boots adjusted in the same way.

The websites of most resorts offer very reasonable and hassle free transfers (It's probably in their best interests!).

I know that http://www.obertauern.com (which is another high Austrian resort) offers a 1hour transfer from Salzburg airport for 39 Euros return. We used a service similar to this for Saalbach this year and it was very well run.
