Yes, all the best, Andy. Look out for a an over-joyous Santa, driving a sleigh, pulled by Rudolph, clearly suffering from malnutrition....

It would be rude to refuse, Davie, and I am partial to Courvoisier. However, I am just thinking of moving smoothly from wine to a a rather special malt. Probably with the same result!

Merry Christmas, boss. Another good year on J2ski, and we thank you for that.

Happy ski days for everyone this winter. For those on the injury list, take you medicine, do your exercises, and come back strong.
Ellmau - Mid January 2014

I will be in Going, Ellmau, Scheffau, Söll for both those weeks, on odd days. (I will be based in Niederau for a few weeks)

Have a plan to meet with Piste Panther, one day.

It is true that some of the village runs can be a bit tricky, especially when the base firms up, late in the day. Gondo;a down is good advice when there are any doubts about capability and safety.

To make up for this, be on the first hartkaiserbahn, get the best snow, finish early, and as Andy suggests, go for a swim.

I have two or three paintings done, when I stayed in Ellmau, it's a good wee village.

Oh Felthorpe, don't you know that all great engineering inventions were a result of deep thought, and observation of society's needs....

This futuristic design of ski boot has the added innovation of keeping one's feet warm!

I guess that many J2skiers are of, shall we say, "a certain age". (Not me you understand, I am just thinking of other people).

Thinking about some of the issues that this can raise, I put on my Engineer Design hat, and came up with:

Daved, although 190s may seem a longish ski to some, (many of us learned on 210s/215s), there are only 3" to 4" extra from the boot forwards, from a mid length ski. Hence the ski length should not be a significant issue. In fact, you might consider the point that you will have an extra 6"/8" braking length.

A heavier skier will need more braking force.
Remain strong on the edges.

You can put in small plough turns.

You can look well ahead, and choose a bank to head up, stop, release the edges, and slide down.

If the path is wide enough, then turn sideways and side slip.

If all else fails ~ Shout "Coming through on the right!", make yourself small and fire past as close to the edge as you dare!

Always remember, it is the uphill skier who carries responsibility in the event of a coming together.
There is no such thing as "the skiwelt conditions".

The Hohe Salve has the sun on it all day, and the runs are usually the first to feel the sun.

During December and early January, Söll, Scheffau, Ellmau and Going get hardly any sun on their village slopes. Add to that, many of the runs are tree lined, affording further shelter from any sun, and you can see that the ground temps will remain significantly lower than full sun air temps.

That is not to say that you won't get a few narish bits, but there should be plenty to ski on. 130cm scheduled to arrive on Thursday, but they will be making some machine snow too.

Of course the odd snow dance wouldn't go amiss....
