I reckon Chamonix would fit the bill nicely. Great skiing, mountain views etc, loads of shops, and lively apres ski. Short transfer time from Geneva as well (about an hour and 20 mins).
Lots of people talk about the fact that you have to get the ski bus to the different areas and that its a hassle. I have to say that I have been to Chamonix twice and have never found it that much of an inconvenience - each area is big enough that you will probably ski there all day so its not like you are getting on and off the bus all day. You will just have a short journey in the morning, and then again in the afternoon/evening. They run regularly though, and its free (covered by lift pass). Hope that helps |

Might be worth checking your bank account, and whether it offers any travel insurance. My account (Bank of Scotland Ultimate Reward Account) gives worldwide travel insurance, including winter sports.
Other than that, i remember getting cheap travel insurance from something like EHIC? - the same people, or a company linked to the European Health Insurance Card - might be worth a google search to see what you can find. Sorry I cant be more helpful...wish i could remember the name!! |

Definately worth skiing a day in Chamonix.
In Courmayeur itself, there is a weekly market, as well as the usual ice rink, sports centre etc. Lively apres ski, plenty of restaurants and pubs etc - you will have a great time!! |

Not been to Borovets but i have been to Pamporovo and Bansko. The Bulgarian resorts are great for your first trip abroad, very beginner friendly and reasonable prices for food and booze. I remember my first trip to Pamporovo there was next to no snow until a few days before we went then there was a huge dump the day before we arrived and it was fine for the whole week.
There's a bit of luck involved with snow in Bulgaria but fingers crossed, it will be fine for you. If by some chance there wasnt any snow, they would bus you to the nearest resort with snow, but obviously thats a bit of a hassle. |

you should try Val Thorens, that would be my recommendation. You could also look at Avoriaz but i think the runs at Val Thorens and 3 Valleys area offer so much more.

Cairngorm was open for a day or two this week, and i think they are hoping to be open for the weekend. There were some blizzard conditions on Wednesday which meant the road was blocked again but i think its almost clear again. The conditions on piste will be amazing...as long as you can get there!
I also go to Glenshee a lot (mainly because it is the closest to me), but its pretty big and I would recommend giving it a go. Checkout the ski scotland website, or winter highland, and you will get some idea of what its like. Good variety of runs, and a couple of restaurants for lunch etc. Much better than the Lecht, and much bigger than Glencoe. Cant comment on Nevis Range as i've not made i there yet. Hope that helps |
