Tony - i was also in Serre Che first week Feb (with Inghams) and we were very lucky with the huge dump of snow on Monday. I did one day last year and loved it so much wanted a full week this year! i'l go bak there next year, no doubt bout it! People so friendly in comparison to some French resorts and reasonably priced on the slopes. Warning tho, Inghams are likely to drop their club chalet as not up to scratch accomodation (although reps etc were great) so beware if book with them as could get moved to another resort at later date (ie after you've booked). neilsons have hotel next to La Grott lift, looks worthwhile looking into.. (i am). Nightlife restried though, you have been warned (not like Sauze) but the pistes are fantastic! 10/10 from me.

Went three years on the trot when still at school, starting in 1980 then didnt go for several years and got married. The then wife was not interested at all in skiing so mockers were put on it.
When the marriage went down the river, made the decision to get back into skiing and have been every year since, starting back with Sauz in 01. Gave ski lessons to new gf for her 40th and she's a natural, looking forward to sharing the ski experience with her. Took up boarding, because a friend had had bike accident and couldnt keep his legs together on skiis and wanted some company... Several years later i'm still learning on the board and loving it. Off to Serre Che this saturday and Soll at the end of Feb -first time done two trips in one season, but with GF on scene could be a more regular thing!!! |

Hi everyone.
Anybody ever had problems with the snowboard bags we take with us ie how much we can carry IN them? Always one of those things where i like to fill my snowboard bag with lots of kits inc boots etc (coz i have a large snowboard bags with wheels) and i then take a smaller suitcase. Your experiences would be appreciated. Cheers PS: One weel til Serre Che!! Come ON!! 8) |

Have to agree with Twoshortplanks - Banff is great place to go! We went in 05 and stayed at Inns Of Banff, and would advise as follows 1) it has a small outdoor pool on the roof - use it! great view and great for the body. 2) try the breakfasts, loads to eat and great price, 3) the bus stops first at this hotel so your first on! 4) sign up for the 3 resorts course (Club Ski), you start the first day in Sunshine, the 2nd in Lake Louise and the 3rd in Norquay. NB VERY IMPORTANT!!! make sure that the first day of the course that you take the earliest bus to Sunshine as it can take a while to get there and if you miss the first day... thats it. 5) IF you do the club ski, do take advantage of the meal at the Banff Springs Hotel (after the course finishes in the evening) - fantastic Hotel with masses of different things to eat. 6) the Ski Club will put a video together usually at Lake Louise - worth it just for the memories - you wont see much of you on it, but i still look at mine!! As for eating, loads of places, plenty of STEAK! There is a place opposite the Hotel, did nice food but loads of others. If you want something dif to steak there is a pasta place (cheap) in town. If walk into town in evening, wrap up, it can be very very cold (was -30 our first night).
Tip of the week from me..... vasalene! Take a big tub and coat your feet (upto where your boots will be) before putting on your socks - will help hold back blisters. hope this helps and enjoy Canada (the people are so friendly. :D |

i've been to Sauz twice (01 & 03) and was able to drop down into Sestriere and found the skiing to be very good. Sestriere slopes larger and more open than Sauz, but if you go to one, make sure you do them all!! Tony mentioned Serre Che which i did a one day trip to from 2 Alpes last year and am going there for the week commence 2nd Feb - if you get the chance to visit there (Serre Che), do go - snows great and the people are so friendly!! Sure you gonna have great time in all the snow!! :D
