Feel the Lurve In Tahoe
Started by User in Ski News, 4 Replies
I had my very best ski holiday in Tahoe. The all-round experience of ski, views, US lifestyle, standards of service, casinos, dining etc was fantastic, although the skiing on its own is not the best I've experienced, apart perhaps from Kirkwood, which is definitely in my top 5 ski areas.
So whats our goodbye strapline?

Anything catchy that doesn't include 'bluebird days', 'pow' or 'freshies'!
Ski Jumping lessons

Ski jumping courses are run in Courchevel. They were featured in one of the DM Ski and Snowboard magazine earlier this season.

Apparently, you start on the 10m jump (I've done this on conventional skis - scary enough) before graduating to bigger hills.
Drag lifts (skiers, not boarders)

At Plagne 1800, there's a button lift that has the most ferocious lift off. Awful when you're unwary, but actually quite a laugh when you know it's coming as you can have some fun doing a Harrier take-off impression!

Lots of T-bars still in Austria and Swisserland (glacier at Engelberg, Arosa and in the Jungfrau also).
Drag lifts (skiers, not boarders)

Years ago, probably in 1981, in Kitzbuhel, I learnt to really love drags...

....these new fangled snowboards were appearing everywhere and it seemed the approved way for boarders to ride T-bars was to fasten themselves to single skiers, by grabbing them around the chest or shoulders.

I was fortunate enough that a truly, truly lovely blonde, who spoke excellent English, attached herself to me for three successive t-bar rides on the way over to Pass Thurn. Gentlemanly convention means I cannot reveal what happened later......

It appears this initmate way of getting up a t-bar has passed out of common usage....sadly.

ADH Tunnel, how difficult is it?

Tone, Andy's picture was taken in January 2010, according to the tag on the shot.

Anyway, this thread has got me thinking about the hardest run I've ever done - another thread, I think!

(And how I hate the expression 'freshies'; right up there with 'bluebird day' in the lexicon of yuk-ski speak!!!)
You go online when you get home and book another trip - and hang the expense!
