While we talking injuries, the achilles will be getting a test on Friday at Milton Keynes - not sure what will happen if it's no good as I only have 5.5 bed sessions until Zwieselstein!

SCGB leader today reports 'all runs in Obergurgl and Hochgurl skiing beautifully. Wind chill at the Top Star'

www.obergurgl.com should do the trick - I'm following it closely as I'm on my way to the Otztal next Monday!

This time next week I will, with a fair wind in my sails, have enjoyed my first runs of the season!
Six and a half nights in bed (very early start next Monday!) |

This site has helped my memory and to travel in time...I'd forgotten many of my ski trips, the hotels or chalets I've stayed in, the good and bad instructors, efficient and inefficient flights and transfers, some of the travel companies that are no more.... When someone posts 'What's Cervinia like?, I go back to 1979 and remember exactly what it was like then (not much help, I'm sure to the skier who asked the question, though!!!) |

Definitely better off with hire skis.
As far as technique is concerned, you need to make more definite and pronounced movements - don't worry about a carved turn, skidding is the order of the day! Lack of investment in slopes over the last few years has rendered skiing on them a riskier business. In their heyday in the 1970s, it was a much better (and extremely popular) experience. |

Railway station, Barney, not a train station!!!!
So: 1.5 hours to airport; .25 hours parking/shuttle .75 hours check-in and wait (scheduled flight, of course) 1.5 hours flight .25 hours baggage (Swiss airport, of course) .25 hours wait for train 2.25 hours train journey. Five minutes walk to hotel! Total: Seven hours tops. Fly at 6am, skiing by 12.30! |
