Avoriaz in March is pretty snow sure. The PDS in general has usually its best snow from mid Feb forward, I don't see why this year would be any different. Lower slopes being sticky - so what?

Also....
Transitioning to intermediate means sometimes revisiting things you may have done before, I found (and still find) the falling leaf exercise fantastic for discovering what my body is doing in turns - I do this exercise a few times every trip to remind myself, I think it is one of the best exercises for helping with exactly the problem you described. There's a video http://www.dailymotion.com/video/x1ekgb_falling-leaf-exercises-in-skiing_sport describing it here... |

Thats the Jura, just 30k from geneva. Gets a bad rep around here, but as I live local, that makes me happy.

This was last Sunday. I was mortified afterwards when I saw the video, looked like it was on purpose, but I promise it wasn't!!! Dad's please watch as your kids cross in front of drag lifts!

Had a fantastic few days skiing around La Dole in the Jura. Small resort, part of Les Rousses, and I thought I'd post about it as these smaller places are often overlooked in favour of much larger "mega" resorts. There are about 10 stations within an hour of geneva, from La Dole to Crozet, all of which off a variety of different ski experiences. These are mostly small, one chairlift type resorts, usually with a range of drag lifts and tbars as well. By and large, these are excellent for families, with uncrowded pistes and parking usually RIGHT BESIDE the lifts. La Dole is a great example of the type - pistes aren't particularly well marked, but there is hardly ever a queue for lifts, and runs are a variety of blues and reds with a few blacks thrown in. This year, with the snow arriving early, they are in great shape. Some of the runs are decent length, like the Franco - Suisse in Dole which is 2.5k or so, and some are sporty, like the beautiful competition run. There's a few decent off piste trails and fantastic cross country skiing in the area as well. Finally, prices - lift passes for the day are around 28 chf, with kids passes half price.
Brilliant for beginners, or anyone looking for a relaxed ski, close to geneva. |
