I think it would be unfair of me to share it publicly as it is organised by a friend who lives locally and the hotel has a limited number of rooms; however, it is a family run "Pension" and I believe the arrangement is not uncommon at that time of year. We stay in the Mittersill area which is not far from Zell am See. I'm pretty sure you would find something similar without too much trouble. Bus / car ride to the lift - not in a ski resort as such.

I agree that those couple of weeks before Christmas can throw up some real accommodation bargains. We go to a fabulous place in Austria at that time where we get top quality b&b for €35. Dinner is optional if you want, and it's not expensive.

Seems this is an extremely complex issue involving economics, labour rights, tourism ethics, local -v- international wishes, protection of local inhabitants/businesses -v- free competition, free movement of labour etc etc. The one thing that can be guaranteed, regardless of the rights and the wrongs of the situation, is that there will be some unintended consequences.

"Ski Club Ambassadors will continue to meet with members at designated meeting points ..."
Perhaps that will mean the ambassadors saying things like: "OK, see you at the bottom of this piste" or "ok, I'm going to head for the bottom of this chairlift; meet you there"... etc |

That's not really too surprising Dave, is it ? :) |
