Road trip
Started by User in Ski Chatter, 5 Replies
I might have a month off mid December to mid January, and I'm thinking of a road trip taking in Belgium, Germany, Switzerland and France.

I've driven straight to the French alps a couple of times now.

Any suggestions of where to go?

I've seen the weather is predicted to get up to 16ºC in Megeve, 14ºC in Chamonix for at least a few days this week.

What effect will that have on the skiing?

Is that "end of" until a fresh snow fall, or nothing to worry about?

The boy loved it, so I'm going back - nd if I'm there I'm going to ski.

Thanks for the advice; I'll get hire skis, work on my technique, and wear mitts to save myself from broken fingers.

:D

Okeydoke, I get the 'it's terrible' message.

But is there a trick to it?

Is the fact I'm catching edges down to my poor technique, or the quality of the mat?

Am I better off with the hire skis?

Got back an hour or so back.

Very weird! I was catching edges for no apparent reason and going over.

I actually nearly lost my balance forward which I thought was impossible on skis.

Anybody got any tips for dry slope skiing?

This would be a typical "how it used to be" experience IMHO. Both S&R and EB's are not signing up to BSBA, so the customer has to take pot luck that the member of staff has the skills needed for the job.

So they should still be doing the whole insert and heat holding malarkey then? I'll call in at Monument tomorrow morning.

As a non professional in this, I would assume that children's ski boots would need extra care as the usual customer "cues" to the fitter might not work! If you have doubts about the service, why not drop an email/pm to CEM and ask him what should take place. A poorly fitted boot for a child might cause damage to growing feet.

Fair play, who is CEM?
