No worries - I love Megeve, so any questions just let me know.

I prefer TipTop at the top of the chamois, better to dump your stuff before going down IMO.
It's worth getting to Cote 2000 at some point, Jardin is one of my favourites on that side. On the Mont D'Arbois side Princess is a lighter Black (my first anyway), and worth going over to Mont Joux once if the weather is good. I find that conditions determine the best runs, but I like coming home fast on the Green Mandarine whatever the weather. All the mountain restaurants are good, not have we had a bad meal in town - just drop in to whatever takes your fancy! I don't know Jaillet, but seasoned skiers often find quieter and better conditions there. |

We're a 20min drive from Megeve this time, so I'll see if that bothers me. Worryingly, prices don't seem much lower (!)
With the additional maintenance costs, I'm now going to need convincing that this is worth it from a financial point of view. |

Wife finally gave permission to book a ski trip, so back to Megeve. :)

Thanks for all the tips, particularly Msej449 - you've brought my attention to some points I hadn't really taken into account.
I'd prefer not to use the guaranteed income route, but rent as and when, we need it for High season unfortunately - half term, and summer. I'll have to find out more about maintenance costs, this season I'll check into a place in St Gervais or Praz sur Arly to see what it's like. I'd rather have more space as we tend to lounge about chalets and with kids a tiny studio isn't going to cut it. Interesting what you say about ski in ski out, Im assuming a lower €/m2 further from the lifts. |

Do you know what he chose the particular property for? Size, proximity to lifts etc?

Cheers, but I've got to research somehow!
I've done catered ski drive holidays for the past two years, going back to sorting everything out myself will be a challenge of itself. |

Ive been a J2Skier for three years and now I'm set on buying property in the French Alps but as with buying at home, you can't have everything...what's a must have?
Small in your favourite resort/big but a way off? Walk to the lifts or drive? Big enough for wife and kids, or must it accommodate a second family? Do needs change as small kids become teens? My ideal place is a 3 bed in Megeve, but at €660,000...I think not. I can get a studio in Rochebrune or a 3 bed in St Gervais - but what are the trade offs? I want to host friends, but is the reality that most times you're on your own? Etc. Cheers all, TP |
