Started snowing yesterday in La Clusaz and continues today, I have turned the snow off for tomorrow as I will be driving to resort from Geneva, and have managed to turn it all back on from Sunday and what looks like the rest of week, so the week ahead poor visability but plenty of powder !!!!!
Ps .... 1 Sleep

PS 1 sleep
Well - two sleeps until the official everyone arriving and meeting for the first time day......

Some have already left to start the journey, others starting later today, more tomorrow (including me - depart Norfolk @ 13.00) and then the last few not leaving home/UK until Sunday morning.

So many different ways to travel !!

There is a computer and internet in the chalet and I, for one at least, will try to put a couple of updates on. But knowing me all these good intentions go out the window when there is skiing, eating and sleeping to be done !!

Nice one Snapzzz
Like the music

And, do correct me if mistaken, but I am sure I detect a marked increase in speed and fluidity on the piste!!

(Snapzzz Minor coming along nicely as well!)

The Three valleys is absolutely huge - just go and look at the statistics!
http://www.j2ski.com/ski_resorts/France/The_Three_Valleys.html
and then go and have a look at how this compares with your usual destination.

Everyone does need to take care that they are going to be back in the correct valley before the lifts start to shut. And for 1650 you have to get back through Pramereul as well, although there is a bus around from 1850 and 1650 as well.

If you were to try to get right over to the other side of Val Thorens (what is becoming called the fourth valley) then it would be a really early start and keeping the speed up to get there and back in a day! The distances are simple huge if you are used to one hill and 5 or 10 lifts.

I doubt anyone would succeed in skiing al the area in a week - in fact just the Courchevel valley is plenty for most people for a weeks skiing.

The piste map is so big it is on several pages !!

You should be fine then - didn't want to presume by suggesting a red.
Grading of runs may be a bit "harder" than you are used to but Courchevel and 3V's is generally pretty good (not much in the way of blues that should really be red or even harder!!).
Cable car goes to saulire - two ways back to Courchevel as well as runs over into the next valley and Meribel or Mottaret.

Both are reds - Combe de Saulire, which you will see as you go up either the cable car or Vizelle bubble. Can get a bit bumpy and very busy.
And Les Creuz an easier red that goes back to the Pramereul area which is the link over to 1650 for you.

I was in 1650 last year and there was good 3G coverage. The Tourist Office has free wifi.

If there is a dump of snow you may need chains for the last few miles up the hill. The valley is likely to be clear as it is not as cold as now (for example). You won't need chains in resort unless you decide to drive to one of the other stations at night.

As far as I am aware all the accommodation is within a sensible walk to one of the lifts, so you shouldn't need your car to get to the skiing.

I would love to see your sons face when he first sees the mountains there !! He will get such a shock - do make sure you take him up the cable car even if you come back down rather than skiing.

Firstly welcome to the forum.
:D

Your snow conditions will be superb, even down to the bottom @1350m (almost certainly).
Driving - who knows; you will need to keep an eye on the weather for that. I'm sure you'll have chains and everything on board although the likelihood of needing those except for the last little bit possibly is minimal.

Which station in Courchevel are you going to?

There is absolutely buckets on here about Courchevel and the Three Valleys (including Meribel and Val Thorens) although sometimes abbreviated as 3V. Stuff about skiing and the runs, stuff about restaurants etc.

You have chosen one of the top ski areas in the world for your holiday and there is an enormous amount of skiing for intermediates that is superbly linked by modern fast chairs and bubbles.

Do ask any specific questions you have - but also enjoy searching on here and seeing what is of interest.

It's only a couple of days now until this trip happens.
I hope everyone has a great time, and may I be another to offer massive congratulations to ally g for running with this and not only making it happen but offering tons of advice and info about the place.

I may actually have been swayed about Tignes now but I'm looking forward to j2 reports to see how busy the ski area gets.

Nice one Tony....
