Wrong. I have snapped a couple pairs of expensive Scott aluminium poles. I have found that the cheap ones are just as good.

She will be happy if they look nice, most intermediates wouldn't come close to breaking a pole.

dont get cheapest ones-they will snap in no time, I had a pair of cheap cheap poles and the snapped clean in two so I bought ones that were aluminium-NOT carbon fibre, only £10 more and they have been bent but can be bent back into shape-better value for ££

turn them upsaide down, grab the poles under the basket and make sure her elbow is at 90degrees
oh and get a grip that is comfortable!
aluminium is best-mid price range but still light and strong
