Just having second breakfast after a few hrs skiing this morning at Grands Montets. Conditions on piste were very nice first thing. As expected it got pretty busy by 10am as all surrounding resorts are using area for their ski lessons. If your renting go for a nice pair of piste skis.

In resort makes a lot of sense if:
1) you book beforehand, anyone not requiring this is likely not worth visiting. 2) you are willing to invest 2-3hrs on first evening. 3) you don't get attempted to get boots adjusted next day. Ski boots really loosen up after a few days skiing so inevitably they need to feel a bit tight for first few days otherwise you are left with a boot which is of no use. |

1500m of vertical in Mid December, great place to learn/refine your carving trade. Epic early season resort.

My concern was not his intellect or desire for hard work, have fond memories of earning pocket money milking cows. Was more innovation in building a good base for Scottish skiing using applicable agricultural technology. Wind has scoured a lot of the recent snow in Scotland and how slopes will have to be prepared from drift snow. In this case why stop at drifts.

Do you think they might give me a season pass :-)? Definitely a good place though, no idea why has never really taken off with British skiers.

Don't shoot the messenger, 'Spade is a Spade'. Am from the UK just pointing out how amusing to see how nationalities often live up to stereotypes.
I could be more direct and point out that anyone who has invested substantial time, effort, money booking an pre-Christmas ski holiday that is not in Cervinia did not do their homework or was willing to take a chance. So fine people take a chance but does feel somewhat like standing next to a drunk bloke in a casino telling everyone on table how he put everything on black. Unless you booked a resort with substantial glaciated skiing (plenty advertise but have little to offer) you are never covering zero. Given that Cervinia offers everything a holiday should have am amazed anyone even bothers to look elsewhere for December. Cheap flights from UK Short transfers Great food and even great food on mountain (won't find that in rest of Alps) Pleasant resort at >2000m Glaciated skiing for all levels Good coffee Good wine Good value There you go I gave the old 'in hindsight' speech. Go Cervinia! Greatest resort on earth (in November and December), Very good (Jan-Mid March), bit south facing after that. |

Chamonix put back everything until 20th. Best skiing conditions at moment are in Cervinia (consistently the best early skiing in Europe. Heard Verbier is now 'not bad' onpiste but if you are booking flights head to Cervinia. If you already have flights into Geneva is a 3hr drive via MB tunnel.
