I would of thought Italy would be a better bet given time of year and long break from skiing. For red and blue type skiing Cervinia is as good as life gets. Big vertical, nothing very intimidating, guaranteed snow. Add in much shorter transfer and nice village and makes a lot of sense.

Please tell me you are not going to dig out some 10yr old skis vs rent some new ones :-).
32 cm on balcony and building.
Really coming hard in Chamonix, 7cm an hr at 1300m so must be crazy up high. Everything is shut for the day with high 100km/hr winds up high. Not forecast to stop for next 36hrs :-).

Current status Chamonix is dumping. 5-7cm in town in first hr, my most optimistic report is stating upto a m at altitude in next 24hrs. Eating breakfast and wondering fat or thin?
Avalanche Risk

So finally the Alps is looking like getting a decent amount of snow followed by moderate snow for the next 10 days or so. Will be interesting to see how stable the snow pack is as there are plenty of risk factors.

1) High wind at altitude for last 2 weeks so wind slab must be a possibility
2) Tomorrow snow is coming on a strong wind
3) Shallow snow pack and pretty cold conditions on North slopes for last few weeks so potential for depth hoar

Pretty sure that not many will give any of these factors a thought over the next few days. Definitely worth making sure your group is well prepared and looking out for some of the indicators.

Where is all the snow?

So far seems that resorts have made a great effort made to open runs, lifts are even opening early 08:30 to allow people to enjoy the best of the conditions. Perfect for working on your technique with hard grippy snow first thing and surprisingly decent cover with nothing showing through. Real issue at moment is over-crowing as not enough terrain is open so everyone is flooding to the high resorts and stuck on-piste. If people are heading out make effort to wake up early! Last few mornings I have had 2 hrs putting down turns on corduroy piste and got off before the masses arrived. For most people a few hrs of solid skiing and 4KM vertical is more than enough for a day.

I would imagine that if you feel it necessary to talk about social services you probably feel that your comments overstepped the mark on a public forum. Of course some people lack social skills and if only for the sake of the butler I hope that the NY brings you a dash of class to accompany the forecast snow.

A new low; people about their grocery habits and what teenage boys get up to. At least the butler can smile when pouring a nice glass to a plonker.
