Geneva car hire, French or Swiss side?
Started by User in Ski Chatter, 17 Replies
It's not the way it used to be. Only Air France (and maybe other French lines from French airports) now arrives to the French side of Geneva airport, so unless you are arriving from somewhere in France you will have no option but to get out on Swiss side as your luggage will be there. So makes sense to get a car on Swiss side. Airport is on a motorway and you will be in France in 5 minutes or less. You can get out on Swiss side, get your luggage and then go through check-in floor to the French side. On the way back near Ferney customs you will see signs Aeroport secteur France and follow them. However for destinations outside of France you will have to check in through Swiss sector.
Chamonix

I second Bandit. Plenty skiing in Chamonix for all levels. Lot of ski areas with runs which will keep intermediate skiers happy.

December 1, Verbier:) With a bit of luck might even get some turns in November - if there is enough snow for Novemeber weekends-only opening, though at the moment weather is more suitable for sunbathing and November is just a week away.

First purchases for the season ahead

Actually I forgot that I made a purchase - season pass and also extended the locker use for another year. But I definitely don't need any more gear, although don't need and don't want are different things so will see how the season progresses:)
If you are flying into Geneva, Chamonix will probably be the closest resort, so leaving London at 6am you have a realistic chance hitting slopes at 11-11.30. Les Contamines, Flaine will be at similar distance. You might need to stay in the hotel/BB though as most apartments and chalets can be only rented on a weekly basis, though of course you can always rent (and pay) for the whole week and leave earlier or arrive later.
Anyone scared of chair lifts?

I love chair lifts, they are so easy getting on and off, and no messing about with taking skis off etc. Liked them from day one - even as a complete beginner they made me feel like an expert:)
