If your budget can handle it go to Zermatt, they have a good selection of runs open ranging from huge wide blue to absolutely frightening brick ice reds. Blowing and moving as much snow as possible to get tracks open.

The Hexenkessel in Vorderlanersbach, the Hexen Bar in Zermatt, Aussie Bar in Saas Fee are all favorites.

I have a feeling the OP may be limited on time due to the snap decision. There is skiing in Europe right now, you just need to decide what you want. If it's picture postcard then Canada might be best plan. But if it's the sport, exercise and variable conditions then no need for trans-Atlantic.

Erm, sleep on the piste = wake up on the piste.
Therefore using the equation: (x+y)squared + R = maximum fun, s*x & bragging when x = proximity to slopes at end of day & when y = proximity to slopes at start of day with R being romance factor then you will never spend better money ;) |

Looking for a beginner friendly resort away from France/Andorra

With a mixed group you need a mixed resort to avoid frustration. My immediate thought was Val d'Isere but it's France. Only going by places I've been Saas Fee would probably suit. Mayrhofen is an intermediates paradise but not a huge amount for beginners or the advanced. Filzmoos is great for beginners and not bad for intermediates, a lot of options for more able a bus ride away. St. Anton would do it, but wait until you are better as it's so good.
So all in all I'm going with Val d'isere, gentle up top, great place to cruise, trickier low down with some awesome runs in between. |

Never, seems like too much to carry to be honest. |
