A few years ago we flew into Zurich with Crossair (I think) and right outside Zurich airport we got on the Arlberg Express coach which took us to Lech. I think it went via St. Anton though. Someone elso did the booking so I can't remember price details, but we were trying to do Lech on a budget (not easy!) so the coach is probably quite reasonable if you can get free flights. If you fancy Zermatt however, we flew into Sion and again just outside the little airport was a coach which took us to Tasch and the railway up to Zermatt.

Hello Nigel - I have actually skied and stayed in Corvara but about 5 years ago. Hotel was uphill out of the town however, so great position on a piste but not much fun for going into town in the evening and then having a real uphill slog home afterwards when all the taxis were taken! (for an asthmatic that is a real problem) So, be careful what/where you book. Town has excellent medical facilities as we discovered when one of our party broke their ankle in a freak accident on the last run home off the Sella Ronda. I think we flew into Verona which was a fairly long transfer time once we had got through the Saturday traffic in Selva. Brescia is a closer airport. The skiing was enjoyable but some of the runs had annoying flat parts. German is widely spoken here. Unfortunately nothing else from that holiday sticks in my mind!
If you want to try another area of the Dolomites, how about Madonna di Campiglio/Folgarida/Marilleva - we have been there three times now with mixed groups of ages/beginners/boarders etc. and would still go back. |

Tony - Schladming and Folgarida are still on the Equity Ski website - could you not switch your Rocket Ski plans through Equity or won't they let you do that? Great shame if not as we have had some fantastic ski hols in both those resorts.
Dare I ask about the job situation? Forgive me if you have talked about it somewhere else in the forum, but I am out of touch due to recent house move. |

Very sorry about your news Tony - does that mean you will be looking longingly at the piste maps I sent you instead of actually using them?
We have just had some good news for a change as we shall be moving permanently to East Anglia at the beginning of June - worryingly close to Norwich, but we will cope somehow! |

Does anyone else remember a film called The Trap starring Oliver Reed and Rita Tushingham?

I can't remember any of the Blue Peter tortoises being shoved in a fridge for the winter?

Another vote for Belle Plagne - great for ski in ski out onto the blue run which goes right through the village. We went in January a couple of years ago and spent most lunchtimes and last run of the day get-togethers, slobbed out in deckchairs in the sun! Stayed in Plagne 1800 a few Easters ago (April) and the runs were very slushy in the afternoon with lots of bare patches on the lower runs, which meant some of the really low villages couldn't be skied to.
Very big ski area with lots of variety and you can get over to Les Arcs on the Vanoise Express which is worth doing. |
