Now I'll annoy a bunch of Canadians by putting this in the US forum but I was wondering what peoples' experience/opinions are on group skiing in North America.
I've organised a trip for the last 5 years with varying numbers between 12 - 22. We have, so far, always gone to France, always had a catered chalet and have generally gone to big centres (3VL, Paradiski, Chamonix) to allow for the mixed ability of the group (mainly skiers from nervous blue to happy on black and beyond). Now I'm thinking of moving the party Stateside and was looking for some suggestions of where to go and what the price difference really is. We normally spend £1000 per head inc. all transport, catered chalet, lift pass and ski hire, what is a reasonable budget to aim for across the pond? A lot of questions I know but would give me a starting point for the 2013 trip! Thanks guys |

Worse for me! I've been going in January for the last 6-7 years and this year picked the first week in March because it fitted the group better....over 7 weeks to wait!

Not that I want to defend them.....but...it's a pricing plan that clearly works. Or at the very least if they don't see a down turn in seats booked it's a pricing plan that works.
I don't use them and I discourage others from using them if they want to a)pick their seats b) take any luggage c)want to pay by any card! but a family member of mine lives in Scotland but works for most of the week in Ireland, travels light every week and gets a really great deal, so it works for some people. |

The Ski Helmet Debate

Oh god, please let's not get this one started again!
Some of us are going to wear helmets, some aren't. It's all down to personal preference and how many wooly hats you've got. Oh you could start a huge thread extolling the virtues of head protection of the non bobble kind.... |

Not that I'm asking people to plan my next holiday but I thought it might be interesting to have some opinions/recommendations!
So, the brief: Group size: 14 - 20 people (7 - 10 rooms) Ability: Mixed but mostly good intermediate or better. Ideal would be a resort with good blue/red cruises and some black steep and bumpy. Accommodation: Catered Chalet Ski in/out: If possible, but less than 500m from a lift Apres: Good to have a restaurant or 2 and a bar at the bottom of the last lift but nightclubs not really needed! Snowsure: The trip will be mid to late January so should (!) be Ok for snow most places. However there needs to be some skiing over say 2000m as a backup for bad weather Location: Have only done France with this group and am happy to go back (3VL, Paradiski are the usual suspects so possibly avoid them). However am open to ideas, Austria? Italy? Budget will probably void the US and Canada Budget:The key one! £650 inc flights and transfers (probably £450 pp without transport) So, if you have any suggestions please let me know, (you can PM me if you have a hidden gem you don't want anyone to know about ) Many thanks in advance for your ideas! Nobody from Washington, Maryland, Pennsylvania etc on the forum????

Hi All,
I'll be travelling to Washington with work from the 31st March to about the 7th April this year and have just had the idea that it might be possible to sneek a cheeky day on the snow in! Can anyone recommend a resort within a day trip distance from DC that may still have snow at that time? Standard and size isn't the main objective as this will be a bonus day on the snow but it would be nice to have a bit of harder stuff and some backcountry if possible! Also if there was a way to get to resort without hiring a car it would make the day a bit cheaper! All suggestions gratefully received! |
